My friend just started a boxing circuit.. now he acts all cocky
Do you guys all act cocky and start pushing people areound because you know some form of martial arts?
My mate has done a few boxing circuit classes.. to my knowledge no sparring or anything like that.... and he always shadow boxes and even stares at strangers trying to provoke a fight... is this the way mma act? Probably just because hes new to boxing and wants to try it out... he's learnt the jab and right hook so i don't think he'll do much damage.. but how do i put him back in his place?
i saw a guy yesterday who i don't even think does MMA do funny things. he rocks back and forth, take off his shoes and triangle chokes the air.
i was at the grocery store last night and some old asian dude was shadow boxing. i almost started to roll on the floor laughing.
your friend sounds like a douche
is this the way mma act? No...
but how do i put him back in his place? You have the following options
1. Ask him why he's acting like that.
2. Ask him if he's actaully ever spared with anyone.
3. Punch him in the mouth.
take off his shoes and triangle chokes the air. So, he was just laying on his back with his legs in the triangle postion?
Should have walked up and just kicked him square in the nuts for being...well....stupid.
lol
just beat his ass, if he can beat you take him out with a bat..second thought, he sounds so dense that wouldn't be any use..after he wakes up he'd probably still be the same douchebag.
just dont hang out with him anymore, simple.
i hate when people do that.
actually, i have known a lot of fighters - both amateur and professional - and for the most part they are extremely down to earth and friendly. I've known my share of cocky ones, but I've never seen a real fighter try to pick fights and do shit like shadow box in public places.
Most of the people who stick with some sort of training lose the attitude after a while. As skill goes up the need to openly project the fact that you might have skills goes spiralling downwards.
It's also an age / maturity thing. I'm guessing your friend is right around your age ( 22 ). Generally people loose that attitude after they fight/spar someone in their gym that is a lot better than they are.

What's wrong with that? that's a BJJ drill it promotes hip strength

Generally it seems like the more experienced, skilled and successful you get, the less you have to prove to other people. Plus it brings out lawsuits if you do heavy damage.
The people who try to pick fights are usually the ones who have a few months of experience so they have huge confidence and want to prove to everyone how tough they are. Also to show off their "skills".

Also to show off their "skills". good point on the lawsuit. you don't even have to do heavy damage...did yall hear about the bullshit case against Matt Hughes where he was posing with a fan in a headlock for a picture and the guy turned around and sued him, saying that he had headaches afterward? lol it's bullshit.
anyway, yeah...agreed
LOL its the people that QUESTION whether or not they're a bad ass that try to provoke fights. Legitimate tough mother ****ers you DON'T want to meet in a dark alley are usually NOT the ones starting fights. I know i can handle myself why beat someones ass to prove it? I've done it before and been paid for it no need to do it again.
Someone with a little training could get their clock cleaned by a good street fighter, just sayin'
Fighting in a bar is a totally different world than a boxing class. He might run into someone that's gonna teach him a lesson pretty soon.
what a douche. as soon as he spars and takes a punch square in the knose he'll calm down
It's time to whoop his ass...SPARTAN STYLE!
I have a friends who thinks the exact same way, and some time I just feel like beating his ass. I take some mma but I'm usually not very cocky. I do do the shadow boxing thing in public sometimes.
Just because your friend can throw a punch, it doesn't mean he can take one. Next time you see him and he mentions boxing or is doing any sort of bragging, give him a nice clean liver shot, or a nice little uppercut right on the button, that should do the job.
