How to Improve Game Performance???
How to Improve Game Performance???
I have Splinter Cell Double Agent and Rainbow Six Las Vegas on my laptop, and they both run fine, but if I have the resolution set to the highest setting in the game the game is slower than my actions. If I have the resolution set to the highest I could move the mouse and it would take a second or two for the mouse to move, but when it's at a lower resolution it doesn't do that. Why is this? My laptop has 2gigs or RAM, 2.2ghz, great nVidia card, etc.. Do I just have to play the games at a lower resolution, or is there something that I have to set from the Control Panel or something? Reps for help.
the RAM is fine go back to a lower resolution maybe upgrade the graphics
the RAM is fine go back to a lower resolution maybe upgrade the graphics Upgrade my graphics card you mean? I have a great graphics card. It shouldn't need updating. My laptop isn't 2 months old.
what kind of processor do you have
just because your graffix card isn't old doesn't make it a good card.
what kind of processor do you have Doubt it would be processor.
You're running XP right Lunatic?
Also, to everyone saying its GFX, he'd have more frame-rate stutter if it was GFX, and he didn't mention any, so I'm assuming there just seems to be some input lag. If it was Vista, I wouldn't be surprised, but you're running XP if I remember correctly.
prob graphics card and/or cpu speed. playing at lower res should fix it.
Graphics card makes it or breaks it d00d...
RAM is important, and so is processor. But a wow strong graphics card will make it wow strong run smoothly
ctrl+alt+del
see what system processes there are, close the unnecessary ones even if theyre like 50k
if theyve got punkbuster
then type
pb_sleep 500 in the console
or
goto control panels, admin tools , services, then stop the crappy applications you've got urnning like nortan antivirus
resolution is the biggest bitch to fix, the same goes with me, even if i up the resolution just slightly then it starts to lag to hell, its just extra work for you CPU
not worth it, but meh, try what i suggested
I hate splinter cell, that shit's too dark and the game's too difficult. I prefer mind-numbing action.
what kind of processor do you have Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz
just because your graffix card isn't old doesn't make it a good card. I have a 511MB nVidia GeForce 8600M GS graphics card
prob graphics card and/or cpu speed. playing at lower res should fix it. Lower res sucks. When I have it at higher res the graphics are ****ing amazing.

nice specs btw for a laptop. it sounds you have too much load on the system and need to close out any background programs causing the lag.
could be the wireless connection, if that's what you have. ;)
high ping gg

high ping gg I'm talking about playing single player. I have to use 800x600 resolution for Splinter Cell! The **** is this shit.. I have an HD laptop, and I have to use 800x600... ****ing bullshit.
I don't see Admin Tools in my CP. I have Vista :( I'm leaveing vista and geting xp, vista has been bad with me.
I don't see Admin Tools in my CP. I have Vista :( There's your answer. Vista is in some way incompatible with everything, probably even incompatible with itself if that's possible.
I'm leave vista and geting xp, vista has been bad with me. I don't know how to install XP. I was going to get the torrent, but I don't know what would happen if I tried installing it.
And holy shit.. I'm looking at all my startup programs, because I just rebooted my laptop, and I have an assload of shit running. I don't know what most of this shit is either.
I'm in Task Manager in the Processes tab, and there's a bunch of shit that I don't need open, and a lot of them are taking up 1,000k+ of memory. Some over 5. If I close these would it help?
Your graphics card is prob the limiting factor. The 8600 GS isn't suitable for high-end games.
Anyways, what drivers are you running? Try http://www.omegadrivers.net/ and see if it gets you some better framerates. Of course, be cautious when installing/uninstalling drivers.

Really? I figured a 512 would be awesome for high-end games.
And Splinter Cell isn't really next-gen or anything.
Really? I figured a 512 would be awesome for high-end games.
And Splinter Cell isn't really next-gen or anything. The amount of memory doesn't say much these days, and the 8600 GS is only 128mb dedicated, rest shared.
Here is a list of benchmarks for almost all the dedicated laptop graphics cards -
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-...ist.844.0.html
I went to Task Manager, the Performance tab, and I see that my CPU Usage is at around 7%. My Memory is at 710MB... What's this mean? Also, when I start typing my CPU Usage spikes from around 4% to 50% and such. Wtf is going on?

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-...ist.844.0.html OOOh ok. Yeah I assumed it was 512 dedicated, b/c the Nvidia I just bought for my laptop is 256 dedicated. An 8800 GT I think.
Edit - No, I got an 8600M GT. 256 dedicated.
edit- wtf? The Dell site says the 8600M GT is 256mb dedicated, yet that link above says its 128. What gives?
edit- nvm, I was reading something wrong. That link says it has memory of up to 512mb dedicated, but I got the 256 mb. I didn't know there were different memory versions in the same model?

My windows vista needs to be activated, so it logs me off ever half hour. I'm going to try and install xp, which i have no idea how. lol
shoulda got the 8600 GT not GS  Was only able to get the GS.
How much would an AWESOME card cost, and how hard is it to install it?
shoulda got the 8600 GT not GS  Yeah, that's the one I got, with 256 mb. Is it any good?
