How long and often do you cut for?
How long and often do you cut for?
Do you have a limit, or is it just whenever you feel your lean enough? How often do you do cut?
As long as it takes. I'll be cutting until I get to 12% or lower. It's going to be awhile, but no sense in bulking before then.
Do you have a limit, or is it just whenever you feel your lean enough? How often do you do cut? last cut i went for about 14months which is what... 60 weeks.. it worked but in hindsight it was stupid.
i think around 15 weeks u should maybe take a week or two off from it, "refeed" and then go back into it..

just curious, why was it stupid? did you plateau? i think i could of done it a lot quicker if i did what i said above, theres science behind it (ive read a couple of article, think one was from t-nation) but to put it simple your metabolism im sure after so long of being in a calorie deficiency would slow down to lethargic levels so it makes sense to have a week or two of bigger eating to help kick it into gear...if my cut ends up going past 15 weeks ( i hope not) then ill try this and report the results back :)
Bulking and cutting
Do you have a limit, or is it just whenever you feel your lean enough? How often do you do cut? I have been bulking for 12 weeks that means three months. I have gained about 15 pounds of muscles. Also burned BF. i am 5.11 at 205. I am at 25% bf right now. This month is the last month for me to bulk. I will start cutting next month. I will be doing cardio 6 days a week 2 hours a day for one month. (just cardio for a month) then i will start cutting for 12 weeks. to reach 5 percent body fat in three months. after that i will start bulking again. target goal 225 pounds with lean muscle mass.
3 months times 4 Cycles = 12 months
12 weeks = 3 months
some day offs
Bulk up for 12 weeks - build the muscle. hit the Heavy weights low reps.
also have to maintain a good diet while bulking.
cut up for 12 weeks - cardio + hit the light weights high reps
after cutting you start bulking again.
the reason for doing this because while bulking you gain the muscles and when you gain muscles you also loose some percentage of body fat due to high intensity work out.
correct me if i am wrong ...................................anybody

correct me if i am wrong ...................................anybody at 25% bf, you shouldn't have been bulking in the first place. You could've made much better lean mass gains at a lower bf%. Also, doing only cardio is gonna catabolize your muscles that you've gained, and perhaps even more. You need to incorporate resistance training. Also, going from 25% to 5% in 3 months is extremely unhealthy, if not impossible by natural means.
High intensity resistance training does burn calories during the session, but if you're bulking, that means you're in daily caloric gain, which will make you gain fat along with some muscle. I hope something in your post was a typo.
I've been cutting in a cycle of 4 weeks on and then 1 week off. It's been working great for me.
i think i could of done it a lot quicker if i did what i said above, theres science behind it (ive read a couple of article, think one was from t-nation) but to put it simple your metabolism im sure after so long of being in a calorie deficiency would slow down to lethargic levels so it makes sense to have a week or two of bigger eating to help kick it into gear...if my cut ends up going past 15 weeks ( i hope not) then ill try this and report the results back :)
yeah, this has been going thru my mind. i think it would have been quicker if i had just clean bulked for a month back in may or so. but now im so close that i should be done my cut by the end of october (as long as i dont plateau again) so im just keeping my head down and barreling thru it.
a clean bulk november thru april sounds soooo nice.
Ugh...8 months now :P I have taken 3 or 4 days off a couple times, but not a full week yet. IMO, you just cut until you reach your goal, with short breaks to ease up a little bit so you don't plateau too much. If I reach a year and I'm not closer to my goal, I'll either a) jump off a bridge or b) take a week off :p
10 months with about 5 months of being off track... resuts =
After am done with my original fatty bomba to fit cut, i'll probaly bulk and then cut to like 10% and then bulk and cut to like 10% ect...
last cut i went for about 14months which is what... 60 weeks.. it worked but in hindsight it was stupid.

i'm currently on the ckd diet, which allows refeeds every week! i can't afford to lose muscle because i'm pretty small right now at 165 lol
here's a link to the ckd if anyone is interested... it's the best diet for cutting and maintaining IMO:
Personally I don't bulk because my goal isn't to get bigger. But I do have a cut and maintain cycle.
3 months I'll spend cutting (shredding) most of my emphasis is on weight training and high intensity cardio (endurance training requires a higher carb intake and it's difficult to be successful with really long bouts of cardio on low bf%). After the shred I'll spend 2 months eating maintenance calories and I'll put my emphasis back on Power and Shock weight training and I'll give myself more days of endurance cardio.
That's basically it right there.
geez lots of reeeaaallly long cutting cycles here
geez lots of reeeaaallly long cutting cycles here i have been on a strict cut since the end of last year. but refeeds and carb cycle have dramatically improved my results the last couple months.
last cut i went for about 14months which is what... 60 weeks.. it worked but in hindsight it was stupid.
i think around 15 weeks u should maybe take a week or two off from it, "refeed" and then go back into it.. This is defintely good advice. My weight loss was going very slow, so I went on vacation for 2 weeks. Didn't lift at all during this time and ate pretty crappy. I went for a short run just about every day. Ended up losing about 4-5 lbs, 0.75 inches of my waist and added 1/2 inch to my bicep. Just got back on my program today and I'm expecting to see some great results now.
Do you have a limit, or is it just whenever you feel your lean enough? How often do you do cut? Last time I lost weight I cut for about a year. Even then I only managed to get down to about 15%.
This time I'll be cutting to at least 10%.
I want to see more muscle this time around. Even if I look skinny (I'm obese now) I dont care.
I want the fat off first before I try and bulk.
I have a huge problem losing muscle while cutting. Would it work to clean bulk for 12 weeks and cut for 4, and keep repeating that cycle?
I have a huge problem losing muscle while cutting. Would it work to clean bulk for 12 weeks and cut for 4, and keep repeating that cycle? That can work if you only gain like max of 3lbs / month on the bulk. So after 4 months, if you gained ~12lbs, some 3-4lbs of fat can be shredded within a month.
So yeah, that works. I had suggested a friend of mine that and he's pretty happy with it, although I haven't tested that on myself personally, since I am on a cut till november.
that's pretty amazing that you cut for that long without a refeed and you still have all of that muscle! :) i dunno i think i lost a bit of size after it all, and my strength took a big dive and when i re-bulked it actually took a month or two to even just start to bring the lifts back up.
Ultimately, you put yourself in a worse position the longer you need to cut for. So ideally, put on as MINIMAL amounts of fat possible and you're cutting will be done quicker and you get back to building up more mass!

Unless you're on a few anabolic steroids, you put on some fat gaining 15 lbs in 12 weeks.
Also, don't bulk at 25% body fat.
It depends on alot of variables. What works for some won't work for others, etc.
Usually eating a clean diet down to 8-12% bf then bulking to 15-16% gives quite good results. Depending on body type tho, most people seeking fatloss tend to be meso-endo, or full endo body types making it quite difficult to get down below 10%, thats why they are always cutting.
Its not a good idea to cut for an extended period of time, for anyone. You body needs to eat to maintain its productivity.
I'm no expert, but whats worked well for me is cutting for 2-3 months, eating maintanance for 2 weeks, then upping my cal intake a little over maintainance (100-200cals) for a week or two and then cutting again or moving on to bulking when the time comes.
At the end of the day, you will/should be able to maintain a decent amount of lean muscle mass while cutting alot of fat, the way it should be. Your body will thank you and you will look and feel alot better.

Would it be a good idea to bulk at 16% bf, i dont have much mass. EZ.. I hate to sound like a broken record, but your 16.. your bodys still growing, you should always be eating maintenance + until your older and your metabolism slows down. Just eat kid and enjoy it while you can, the mass will come. Try to keep it clean, and you will put on mass and lean out.
good luck.
