I got a interview tomorrow!!!
Well i have a interview at the Honey Baked Ham Cafe tomorrow at 3. Its my first interview ever and i need some help. My aunt told me to wear dress pants, dress shirt, and a watch. Is all that really neccesary for a job interview at a resturant? Also what questions should i prepare myself for that the manager might ask? Any information on interviews would be helpful. Thanks
What kind of job are you interviewing for?
You should look presentable, but at your age it's not that big of a deal. Just make a decent impression and you should be in.
just act normal
I'm interviewing for the honey baked ham cafe, its basically almost like subway. But do you feel dress clothes are needed?
dont eat all the ham...
ha ha jay kay
nice shirt (ie collar), some slacks or designer jeans and i think youd do alright. just dont be a prick.
Make sure you give the interviewer a firm hand shake before and after, and let her know you appreciate him/her taking the time to interview you before anything else. You should be gold if you follow this,
be ready for the "why do you want to work here" question.
Well the thing i'm worried about most is dressing. Does anyone think a pair of designer jeans and a brand new striped shirt will be ok? Also i have a very strong hand shake and i always make eye contact.
Ya, she's right. Dress shirt, dress pants & dress shoes will make you look more presentable and responsible. Wouldn't hurt to bring a copy of your resume (although you are young and may not have too much to include). There's no reason to look at a job as being below another position when you're going to interview...at the end you'll be the one who looks like the idiot if you take that approach because at the end of the day the person interviewing you still wants to same qualities as someone would if you were interviewing for a more prestigious position. My $.02.

Also i have a very strong hand shake and i always make eye contact. Hey, don't cut any corners. If you have some dress slacks/shirts - wear them. If not, wear the jeans. But first impressions do matter so go all out. I'd know, my old man is a supervisor, he's done quite a few interviews so I hear about it all the time.
Ok, so i'm thinking about wearing my blackdress pants, a long sleeve dress shirt and a tie, and my stacy adams and a watch. Does that sound alright?
Ok, so i'm thinking about wearing my blackdress pants, a long sleeve dress shirt and a tie, and my stacy adams and a watch. Does that sound alright? Yup. Sounds good. Be friendly, talkative and sound/act professional and you'll be good to go.
Sounds like you have it made. Just stay positive. Don't freak out if you do get nervous. In fact, let them know you're nervous and they'll appreciate your sincerity.
Thanks for the help so far, now since i got dressing out of the way what would be a good response for the question "Y do you want to work here?"
A tie is too much in this situation, I'd also switch out the long sleeve shirt for t-shirt w/ collar & buttons. Your not getting interviewed for an admin position, its too much imo.
Why do you want to work here?
Well I'm guessing your going to be doing part time. Just say that your interested in getting into the working world and that it'll be your first real job. Saying that your familiar with hard work (maybe say that you cut lawns or something previous summers for cash - and are wanting to move onto something bigger) Could be a good move, its not hard to BS a few little things.
Speak clearly, look presentable, and be clean. (Being clean is huge when your preparing food in front of the customer)
Edit: And if your watch is some digital timex or something like that, don't bother wearing it, it just looks sad
Places like this have a high turnover, and will generally hire anyone who can do the hours they want for the pay they're willing to give out.

be ready for the "why do you want to work here" question. ^^^^^^
such a stupid ****ing question... it's like how do you even answer... "well, I need a little more money so I can afford bj's from wendy on the corner of 6th street"
99.99% of the time it doesn't poorly reflect on you if you overdress. 100% of the time it does poorly reflect on you if you under dress. Adopt that mentality.

wear nice clean khakis, an ironed button-up w/ a collar, and decent shoes & belt...the watch is irrelevant, and IMO the tie is overdoing it...
arrive 15-20 minutes early, but don't actually check in until 5-10 minutes before your scheduled interview time...use the time to calm yourself, straighten up your appearance, and rehearse any last minute answers...
you want to work there because you've always been a loyal customer that has gotten great service & food from them, and you'd like to be a part of it, blah blah blah...as a customer, honeybaked has always been a great environment to be in, and the possibility of being in that environment as an employee is very appealing...say this with a straight face & enthusiasm...you'll need to practice it...
be honest about this being your first job, but explain that you've got all the skills they're looking for in an employee...rehearse and be prepared to give some examples that show you:
1) are a quick learner
2) like to help people
3) can calmly & effectively solve problems in pressure situations
As someone who has done interviews in the past for a similar position in which you are applying for, IMO a tie is overdoing it. I think some dress pants, a button up, and nice shoes would be just fine. Don't need the watch etiher.
What I looked for is eye contact, be courteous, ask questions about the job description (that shows your interest in the job), and remember, YOU the interviewee should be doing more talking the interviewer. I found that often times I was doing most of the talking trying to get them to open up. Remember, we are trying to see if YOU would be a good fit for the company, so sell yourself....
Some common questions you might expect:
Why do you want to work here?
Strengths?
Weaknesses?
What do you hope to get out of the job?
Do you have a flexible schedule?
What would you do if you were in ____ situation?
How would you respond if ______ happened?
Stuff like that, I hope this helps, and goodluck!
Well i just got back from my interview and i think it went pretty good. He told me out of the 10 people he interviewed in the past week i was the best dressed and he liked that(i wore dress pants, and a dress shirt and dress shoes). The interview was only like 2 mins then he told me that i needed to have a second interview on wensday at 5:30 with the assistant manager. Is that a good thing? Also the thing i really didnt like about the interview was that he told me he only has maybe 10hrs a week.
yeah that's a good thing. i had two interviews for my first job also in retail. first interview with the head manager and the second with an assistant manager to get a second opinion i guess.
Any suggestions on how to be more impresive on the second interview?
EYE CONTACT!
And good luck.
EYE CONTACT!
And good luck. I tried to make eye contact today with the head manager and he keep looking away, but i guess i made him more nervous than i was, lol.
Any suggestions on how to be more impresive on the second interview? Make sure to reference something he told you in the first interview. Shows that you can pay attention to detail. Plus, people like it when you listen to them.
Be confident, not cocky. Keep eye contact and smile.
Best of luck.
PS. I don't think you're overdoing it wearing a shirt and tie. Dress to impress. You'd rather be over than underdressed.
