Iam starting Muay Thai today!!
After considering all the martial arts I have decided to go with Muay Thai. The gym is like 4 minutes from my house. I cant wait to see how I look on my first day. Iam going to be like bj, lol. Well guys, Iam so excited about this and just in case you wanted to know he teaches strictly traditional MT, fees are $75 a month, 2 sessions a week. Can anyone give me some advice on what to expect? Pointers? I look forward to sharing my experiences with you all.

Answer:

good luck bro, sounds good. i'd love to do muay thai but nowhere in my area does it. i'm happy with kickboxing atm.

You're gonna feel like shit tomorrow. I hope so, I love this shit.
Please let me know how this turns out. I was intrested in taking Muay Thai. Yeah, for sure. He let me watch his class yesterday and I was getting pumped just watching.

Answer:

I always wanted to be a fighter and I always visualized myself doing it, but it's so much different from wanting to do it and then actually doing it. Once you actually start training, you really get a different view of fighting. My feeling of invincibility went away pretty quick after getting my ass beat a few times.
Just sayin', expect to get the crap knocked out of you.

Answer:

best advice i could give ya would be to pace yourself, do go hard out straight away or you'll vomit

Anyway, good luck bro. You're gonna love it.

You will be sore aas hell the first workout so you may not go back the next session because you can barly move. good luck!

Answer:

good job bro.. muay thai is the way to go.. im hopin to start that soon

Answer:

Expect lots of random bruises (and that's before you even start sparring). You WILL be hurting real bad after your first couple of classes, a few days after the end of your first week DOMS will be setting in and your body will hurt real bad. Beautiful pain, though. If you aren't already super fit you'll have trainings where by the end of the training you'll be struggling to lift your leg, let alone pull off a powerful kick. Sleep as much as you can, just like lifting it reeeaallly helps your body to recover faster. When your body hurts there's a big temptation to just do nothing, which I don't recomend. Go out for a light jog, then stretch, stretch stretch. Keep your muscles from knotting up and going tight between classes or you'll really feel it.
I just started training a few weeks ago, so these are just my newbie experiences so far..
When you're training don't try to impress anyone with your super powerful kicks and punches. Get the technique down before you try to bust out huge power. From what I've seen so far, in muay thai power is generated first through tight technique, then through strength and speed. Listen to your trainer.

Like has been said, you are going to be sore, ice your shins about 15 mins each after you get home from class. Do not do anything guys tell you like kick tree's ect, thats all bull crap, your shins will toughen up with time. You will suck at 1st, but thats why you are there to learn.

Answer:

Muay Thai just isn't as enjoyable unless you have a 260lb heavyweight to do thigh conditioning with.

Answer:

Thanks for all your replies.
All I have to say is wow. I thought I was in shape, but sh1t no son. I got my ass totally kicked by the drills and cardio. I also did a little pad work which I enjoyed but I need alot of work. I thought I was going to be on life support half way through the work out and its only an hour long. I could barely walk out of the gym. Alot of you told me what to expect and it was true.
I have a new respect for all martial artists and now I know the feeling of being gassed. My instructor said that he was going to work on my technique so Iam looking forward to that. Thanks all.

I can pretty much say that I sucked but Iam excited to learn. I sure hope Iam not kicking trees. lol

It gets easier, well it's more like your level 10 changes; and you can push your self harder. Thai pads are one of those things that you need to practice thousands of times before you get fluid with it.

Thanks all. yeah different ball game. Martial arts depend on explosive cardio and stamina as well if you dont have stamina you get you @ss whopped before you know it over in competition espically

Answer:

Where do you live in Tx? I live in Weslaco. You live in TX? My sensei usually videotapes sparring sessions and posts it on his website. I still need to find out his website...a friend showed it to me a few weeks ago.
