my diet plan and will eating 3 apples stop me from going into ketosis
Just wanted to know if anyone knows the nutritional value of an apple, i.e the amount of carbs an apple has - like a golden delicious, for example.
Will eating three apples a day stop me from going into Ketosis ?
My meal plan which i would like to try out that i started yesterday is basically -
3 apples a day
3 tins of tuna a day
3 lots of salad - lettice and cucumber - 1 tomatoe between the 3 salads
1 or maybe 2tbls of olive oil with the salad
4-5 whole eggs, or ,1 chicken breast
1 cup of brocolli
maybe some peanuts if i get hungry between meals
lots of water.
How does that look ? i have done keto before and loved the way it made me feel, but its hard for me to stick to unless i eat lots of cheese and burger, sausage (junk) e.t.c, which i dont want to do because its not healthy and it can give me smelly breath which i dont want obv.

Answer:

Look up apples at a site like calorieking.com
And yes its not good Im afraid, 3 medium apples = 47g carbohydrates (even taking the fiber into account) which isnt good.
Your diet plan looks a little messy, make sure you get adequate fat intake (65% of your daily caloric intake should come from fats) and I think 3 tins of tuna isnt necessary, you are aiming for about 30% of your daily calories from protein.
Counting your calories would be good but it depends on how much dedication you are willing to give in. Just remember keto isnt a all-you-can-eat feast on fatty foods, you still have to watch your intake just like any other diet.

Answer:

Keep the apples for your carb-up.
As MT said, you look like you don't have enough fats in your diet. What are your total calories, protein, fat etc?
You can eat burgers on keto, just make your own (make a big batch and freeze some). Rib steak is cheap and delicious and very good for you.
There is a pretty distinctive breath smell on keto, but drinking plenty of water and eating lots of green veg (think brocolli and spinach rather than tomato) will help. Also, tuna is not known for its breath-freshening qualities.
Avoid the peanuts until you are absolutely sure of what you are doing.

Thanks M T, i realise that my total fat, carbs and protein isnt the same as is recomended here on Keto, but i have read here that you will go into Ketosis as long as you reduce the amount of carbs you eat, and you dont HAVE to eat 65% of total callories from fat, although i know it is recomended.
I find it very hard to get 65% of my callories from fat and i thought maybe just 3 apples a day might / would still allow me to go into ketosis.

By the way the tuna i wash in a collender first and mix it with salad and an apple and 1 or 2tbls of olive oil and it tastes nice and fresh.
I will start eating more brocolli and green veg.
Am i right in thinking you DONT need 65% of callories from fat to go into ketosis ?
And also as M T has said the apples add up to about 47g of carbs, so thats to many carbs to go into ketosis ?

Answer:

anyone ?

Answer:

No, you dont need 65% of fat to go into ketosis.
Ketosis is due to a lack of carbs, not due to high levels of ingested fat.
But, if you dont eat enough fat, you cal intake will be very low and you will fail miserably.
I suggest you go back and read some of the stickies. All of these questions have been answered many times before and I dont think you have enough of a grasp on the concept of a keto diet to be jumping right into as yet.
Im not trying to be rude...GL with it.

Answer:

ok ive just added up my callories and % of fat, protein and carbs, eating -
3 tins of tuna
6 tbls of olive oil (2tbls with each tin of tuna)
salad - lettice, cucumber
3 apples
4-5 eggs
1 cup of brocolli
Thats 4 meals a day.
carbs= 57g - 13%
fat= 105g -55%
protein= 117g -27%
total callories= 1715
with fibre (salad / brocolli ) making up the other 5%
will this be ok to still get into ketosis ?
or to many carbs ?

or to many carbs ? Drop the apples, I aim for <20g of carbs daily. Like Andrew said your body enters ketosis when its deprived of carbs. 57g might be pushing it.

or to many carbs ? It's quite possible to get into ketosis on that level, but you are making life harder for yourself for the sake of a few apples. If you must eat extra carbs, go for green veg. Apart from anything else, you can stuff youself silly for the same amount of carbs as in a couple of apples.

Ok thank you,
damn i love apples they taste great in my tuna salad, lol. nvm. :(
i guess a could throw in some brocolli instead of the apples, i know it wont taste as nice but it should fill me up as much.
Also, im guessing its ok to get all my fat intake from just olive oil and eggs ?

Answer:

Olive oil and eggs are good, but so is steak, chicken, nuts, cheese, butter, cream, etc. Mix up your fats.

Answer:

You need Omega 3 and 6 and 9 in your diet. You'll get the O9 from the olive oil, but you need to eat fish or flaxseeds or walnuts for the O3. Omega 6 tends to be in grain fed beef, so it's not such a problem. Most people eat more than they need.
The bigger a variety of foods you include, including fats, the less likely you are to suffer any micro-deficiencies.

Answer:

Cucumbers and pickles can offer a nice sweet-ish snack.
Going from fitday (not perfect but good enough):
1 8.25" cucumber = 7 gr carbs and 2 gr are fiber
1 4" dill pickle = 6 gr carbs and 2 gr are fiber
It's not an apple, but it's something. :)
Edit: Yeah, most people are very deficient in Omega 3 fats. Flaxseed oil and fish oil are very important to offset and correct the 6:3 ratio which is optimally 1-2 to 1.
Alot of people on western diets have ratios close to 20 to 1. Very unhealthy that.
