Need some assitance on beginning

I am not sure if what I need to do but im tired looking in the mirror at the extra fat, Should I start eating right and turn it into muscle or should I loose first? I have been excercising for 2 yrs on and off I was doing pushups every morning and every night and I was trying to eat right but I cannot be eating the foods I need because I don't see much improvement, I can feel it a little but everytime I look in the mirror I get disgusted.
If someone could really help me I would appreciate, I am on a low budget and Im pretty sure I dont have the right equipment to do this but I have a "powerhouse" machine and a "bowflex" machine. I can't afford to go to the gym every day because the only good gym for the best profit is $20 a yr and that is 26 mile drive every day. The eating is what i need to get figured out, I normally eat cooked meals for example canned corn, peas, green beans, grilled chicken, tuna, drink lots of ice water also, but I normally only eat atleast 2 meals a day im undereating because not being able to understand the nutrition facts how many calories I need to eat, how much protein I need consume through the day etc.. Im really motivated to do this but ive lost interest because I cant understand the nutrition facts whats good to eat and what not.
Well ive made this paragraph to long but if someone could help me I would really appreciate it, 2 yrs on and off and just seeing small improvements are not enough for me I can't believe ive lifted my butt off for 2 yrs and could have been getting friendly advice from great people like everyone here. I am willing to do anything for the tips to succeeding in loosing this extra fat so I can feel great when looking in the mirror at myself. Thanks to everyone for reading!
