Why do people care?

Why do people care?
I was cooking my dinner and I was thinking... Why do people even care if we believe in evolution? Why not just let us have our own opinion and let them have theirs?

Answer:

Because the retards want to have their creationism taught in school science classes.
Only in the United States of course, in the rest of the developed world these people are treated as fringe idiots, over here they build musuems.

Answer:

I don't care what you choose to believe. I care when people try to put religion in the science class room. Not only is it wrong it severly lowers the criteria for knowledge. If the evidence creationists put forward is enough to get their theory into schools virtually any theory would bw good enough for the classroom.
After all how is the evidence for christian creationism any better than the egyptian story of Ra masturbating the universe into existence?

After all how is the evidence for christian creationism any better than the egyptian story of Ra masturbating the universe into existence? But its the same way for Christians who dont believe in evolution, they dont want their kids learning it because they dont want to go through the confusion and trouble of explaining it isnt right...So they just dont want it to be heard...They never really tell us God created the earth in school though...They talk about evolution as a theory but we do hear about it...I never remember being told anything about God in the classroom by a teacher though...

And there are people who do not believe the holocaust happened. Should we appease them to by leaving WW2 out of history classrooms so that their kids won't be confused?

I was cooking my dinner and I was thinking... Why do people even care if we believe in evolution? Why not just let us have our own opinion and let them have theirs? Because by teaching science in the classroom you're also teaching independent thought. When someone knows how to critically think for themselves they are harder to control and therefore religions lose followers.
In order to combat this loss of membership (and therefore money/power) churches try and stop the teaching of science (independent thought) so it is easier for them to gain members.
Religion just doesn't stand up to critical analysis so they have to avoid it like the plague.

It's not the school's place to teach god. It's their place to teach science. Which is what evolution is. That said, when I learned about evolution in my bio classes, it was never about abiogenesis or the evolution of man, but observable evolution of modern creatures.

Answer:

i'm sure you would protest if muslims wanted the islamic religion to receive equal teaching time in your CHURCH

Answer:

I was cooking my dinner and I was thinking... Why do people even care if we believe in evolution? Why not just let us have our own opinion and let them have theirs?
Because it never stops at a difference of opinion, and because there is value in believing in true things, like evolution.
Evangelicals insist that everyone, and I do mean everyone, think exactly as they do.

Religion just doesn't stand up to critical analysis so they have to avoid it like the plague. Didn't you get the memo? Science no longer encourages independent thought. It is now done through "consensus". At least according to Al Gore.

Lcash hehe. You're right. It is consensus. But a consensus that comes after independent thought.
Here's how it works...
Professor1 in australia makes major discovery, it goes against current knowledge. Releases article in journal for people around the world to read.
Professors 2,3,4,5 and 6 (who are spread around the world) scream and rage because Professor1's findings go against what they know. So they create their own experiments to replicate his findings. To their surprise they succesfully replicate Professor1's findings and are starting to think he's onto something.
Professors 7, 8, 9 and 10 think there is something to Professsor1's research, especially after the other Professors got the same results. They use the new findings to make predictions. They then setup experiments to test their predictions. There experiements are a success!
So, after replication and then sucessful prediction the scientific community is coming to the consensus that Professor1's theory is correct.

What if the majority of society did not "believe" in gravity?

What if the majority of society did not "believe" in gravity? You mean its more than just a theory????

What if the majority of society did not "believe" in gravity? Is there defenitive proof that creationism isnt right? We dont have "defenitive" proof for creationism or for evolution or anything else...Its just what you believe...

Answer:

You mean its more than just a theory???? You do understand what a theory is, in scientific terms, right?
Gravity is a theory. Heliocentric theory is a theory. That all matter is made up of atoms is... well, you get the idea.

Gravity is a theory. Heliocentric theory is a theory. That all matter is made up of atoms is... well, you get the idea. I know -- it was just a joke.

Answer:

Is there defenitive proof that creationism isnt right? We dont have "defenitive" proof for creationism or for evolution or anything else...Its just what you believe... Why is this such a difficult thing to understand? Evolution is not a "belief". It is a scientific theory which offers a more than sufficient explaination as to how biological organisms change over time. It is supported by ample amounts of evidence from multiple scientific fields. Creationism as written in the bible is a myth. Zero evidence. Nothing. If all the evidence pointed towards the genesis creation story then sure, I'd believe it. But it doesn't.
I'm going to assume by your ignorance on the subject that you've never taken the time to read and understand what evolution is or how it really works. I can help you out with this, but I'm sure my attempt will be unsuccessful because you already have this notion planted into your head that evolution is wrong because the bible says so.

Answer:

there's a theory going around about supermassive black holes and the formation of galaxies. by your logic, as we cannot see a black hole, it should be replaced with creationism. brilliant. we might as well get rid of mathematical logic in school and just say god created 2+2=4.

Answer:

I was cooking my dinner and I was thinking... Why do people even care if we believe in evolution? Why not just let us have our own opinion and let them have theirs? Nobody would care, if creationists weren't trying to neuter the teaching of science in our classrooms.

I prefer to believe that Gilbert Gerard built a time machine, went back in time and ejaculated into a pile of primordial goo.
Thus, the miracle of life.

Answer:

I was cooking my dinner and I was thinking... Why do people even care if we believe in evolution? Why not just let us have our own opinion and let them have theirs? because of what you just said. evolution is NOT an opinion. if you dont buy it, fine. but dont go around thinking its an opinion. its a proven scientific event just like gravity. wouldnt you care if someone said they dont believe in gravity? i think you would be wondering how they can live that way. the theory of evolution uses the same scientific method used to make other scientific theories. its not any different than the theories used to make and run a computer. but the only problem is it conficts with some peoples personal beliefs about how we came about. but those are just beliefs. creation has nothing to back it up. i care because people are blindly following these stories when the evidence and logic points in another direction. i care because they are even trying to get these stories tought in SCIENCE CLASS. i care because in some towns, they actually let them get away with it too. theres a lot of reasons why we care.

Answer:

LOL I love you Jean Paul(no homo), was that a family guy reference? Indeed it was -- what post would be complete without a Family Guy reference?

Answer:

because the advancement of science is an ever impending threat to the outdated, unsubstanciated religious doctrines of our time.

Answer:

Dude, don't question other peoples behavior.

Answer:

i don't know about others, but i could care less what other people believe as far as evolution is concerned. but i do care if they want to teach intelligent design or creationism alongside evolution in a science and / or biology class room. and when people try to belittle evolution when they have no idea what they are talking about. and when people don't know the proper definition of a scientific theory and / or think that the word theory after something means it isn't a fact.
