HGH,IGF-1 and Cancer
HGH,IGF-1 and Cancer
Not sure how true this is, but I heard HGH speeds up cancer cells in your body? Not sure about IGF-1 and other pepties. I would love to be able to use both but my mom had breast cancer 3 years ago and I dont want to do anything that speeds it up.
Ya man, I'm on an IGF/PegMGF cycle right now and was wondering the same thing. REPS FOR REPLIES!
IMO common sense tells that if HGH and IGF speed up cell growth like muscle cells so if there are any cancers cells i think its goning to speed thier growth as well...just my thoughts

It doesn't cause cancer, but if you already have it, it speeds up the spreading of cancerous cells.

easy to test for malignant cancer as it would be spreading and in the blood stream. benign tumors and such though only thing I can think of is full body cat scans? (not sure if its a cat but its one of those xerox machines :) )

You can be genetically predisposed to it, other than that I do not know if there are any other heriditary traits leading to hightened levels of cancer cells in an individual...
Heres some info guys.
From a site that does business in GH:
Currently, our best medical indications show human growth hormone (HGH) does not directly cause cancer. The best evidence we have to date, comes from the work of Dr. Chen and Dr. Terry. The doctors, Chen and Terry performed over 800 over treatments that included HGH injection to patients between 1994 - 1996.
As of yet, there have not been any reports of cancer from any of their patients. As Dr. Terry stated in the book Grow Young with HGH, "With 800 people over the age of about 40, you would think that given normal incidence rate of cancer, some of these people would get cancer. It could be that there is some sort of protective effect from growth hormone replacement."
Most doctors have concern for their patients who have existing cases of active cancer wishing to add human growth hormone therapy into their regime. In this case, one may take the risk that their HGH therapy could speed the cancer rate up, potentially acellerating serious injury to your health or in severe cases cause death. It's important to always consult your physician before starting any HGH therapies.

Site that sells GH:
If you have a history of cancer or other tumors (at any age), it would be wise to get a complete checkup and be monitored by an MD to make sure that there are no active tumors before your HGH cycle. While HGH (and IGF-1) won?t cause cancer or tumors, they can create an environment that can allow already existing, active tumors to grow at an accelerated rate.

News article:
Pollak, director of the cancer prevention unit at Canada's McGill University in Montreal, is co-author of an editorial published alongside the Swerdlow study. The editorial supports Swerdlow's worry that hGH has a role in cancer -- especially colon cancer.
One effect of hGH is to raise blood levels of a substance called insulin-like growth factor type I (IGF-I). Animal studies show that high levels of IGF-I cause cancer. Colon-cancer cells grow faster when exposed to IGF-I. People with a disease called acromegaly have too much IGF-1 in their blood -- and they are at high risk of colon cancer.
"The fact that these hormone levels decline with age may be an appropriate balance," Pollak says. "You may be subjecting yourself to risks if you keep these levels high."
In an October 2000 interview with WebMD, Stanley Slater, MD, discussed the fad of using hGH to slow the aging process. Slater is associate director for geriatrics at the U.S. National Institute on Aging.
"When people ask, I tell them not to take growth hormone but to wait until it is clinically established to be useful," Slater says. "There is no clinical evidence of it causing tumors to grow faster, but on biological grounds there is some suspicion. If you give someone growth hormone for 30 years, nobody knows what will happen."
Reps when I recharge bro, good info.
Scary, I have a family history of colon cancer :O I'll get that shit checked out when I'm 25-30. Not cool!
Very good info man thank you..Im still not sure on this one,,honestly I think im better off waiting a couple of years and see what else comes out/new studies. I really dont NEED HGH for Powerlifting comps. Thanks everyone for your advice, lets definitely keep this thread going.
In all the research I've done, most negative sides are blamed on high doses (such as bodybuilders use). I'm wondering if the body has the ability to combat any negative sides when the GH is at reasonable levels, but cannot protect itself in the presence of high GH levels.
At any rate, I have chosen to stick w/ 2iu per day, mostly to keep me looking young and lean.
There simply isn't enough research to conclude whether GH (191chain, in humans) will cause or promote cancer. We are left to procede with caution.

I've heard that "normal" doses of HGH and IGF have little impact on accelerated cancer cell growth, while insane amounts (100mcg of IGF and 10iu+ of HGH per day) provide the perfect environment for accelerated cancer cell growth. This makes sense to me, in that HGH can cause you to look "neanderthalish", but not until you take high doses and over a period of time. Also, obviously a history of cancer in your family raises these risks. I have a history in my family (dad died of prostate cancer), but I am not overly concerned right now. I have been on HGH in doses ranging from as high as 5iu/day to the current 2iu/day since December and have had bloodwork and a complete physical to boot done. I have discussed it with my doctor, but he didn't have any useful information on it. Let's face it, a lot of what we do is outside the parameters of fully researched science.
Just my $0.02 as these are all opinions from educated and trusted people, but I have no paperwork to back it up.

Scary, I have a family history of colon cancer :O I'll get that shit checked out when I'm 25-30. Not cool! my family has a history of cancer too but all of them smoked a pack or more a day so i'm thinkin that had somethin to do with it.
reps to bowie, good stuff!

reps to bowie, good stuff! From what I heard(Doctors) it really depends on what age they died at.
Here's the part that's tough for me. GH has so many beneficial and lasting qualities that it's really a tough decision. If it were just about "getting big" I would say to hell w/ it but GH offers so much more. I choose to do it though I recognise that it's a roll of the dice. I have no significant family history of cancer. However, I would honestly recommend that you bro's that do have cancer in the family, avoid GH until more research becomes available.
With the tremendous money spent in the anti-aging market I expect we'll be seeing some new studies soon.
Oh, and thx to those who rep'd me. I don't really care so much about the rep system but I've been spending a lot of time trying to help people out in this section and it is definitely nice to get some respect from one's piers.
Good view on it man. I wish I could give it a go, I was going to do an IGF-1 cycle right after this I guess not then. Ill just stick to AAS for now, I can still make amazing progress with AAS alone, espeically at my height. Thanks everyone for your replys and especially BOWIE for that info before.
