Boring? exciting? love it? and how much you make? (serious) reps You don't necessarily have to have a college degree, I work with people that are geniuses that did not even finish HS. Any knowledge that you get is good but I would not focus on PHP and MYSQL cause they are open source and most companies don't use open source. They use stuff like .NET technologies ( ASP.NET, C#, VB.NET...), JSP, and Java for web development and SQL server or Oracle as databases. PHP is also being used a lot nowadays by small business and people who build web sites for themselves. I would also learn how to use Flash and Photoshop. About the work environment it depends on the people you work with. I work with geeks whose lives revolve around Coding and Video games. I don't have anything any common with these people. They are geniuses and have so much talent but because they lack social skills they can't do anything else. If you are a very social person I would recommend you to be a programmer. I like my job now as I'm starting to move away for programming to database administrator and systems analyst. I make between $45,000 to $50,000 that because I work for a friend and it is a small business we are trying to build. One lesson that working is that you if you want to make serious money you have to become a business person first which requires degree such business administration, accounting.....It is the people that know the business that make lot money. My boss is a very good example was accountant and he will say that I don't how the technology works but tell me your problem and I can find someone to fix. And he is right we get project where we get paid between $100 to $200 per hour where all the work is done by us.
