A Quest for a magical Dress....

A Quest for a magical Dress....
...okay, well not a literally magical dress, but you know what I mean!
I've been reading these boards for a while now, and am hoping you lovely heregers can help me! This is my situation:
I'm in my final year of school, and have been searching and searching for a dress for my leaver's ball/prom but with no success!
There are a couple of issues:
- I'm self-conscious - have got a bit of a tum, although I'm 5"8 with long legs, which i'd say are my best (if only) feature! :o
- I've got about £200 to spend
- I live in a major city, so lots of the usual shops nearby. However, the usual Debenhams/Monsoon haven't proved successful, plus everyone goes there anyway! (also, Coast have gorgeous dresses, but I've tried on and nothing suits me)
- Oh, and I'd love to look 'wow': I'm a bit of a wallflower, so I kind of want to make a statement to all the confident people in my year who I've had a bit of a time with... although i don't want to stand out for all the wrong reasons, e.g. neon pink puffy outfit!
So, please PLEASE help a girl in need! Thank you!

Hello! What colour hair and skin do you have?
I think emerald green looks lovey on most hair colours and skin tones and would look very sophisticated and "wow" but without being too in your face.:)

They didn't have proms in my day so I am not sure of the rules - like, do you have to wear a long dress with a chiffon shawl and wear your hair in a chignon blah blah blah?
If not, there is a wicked emerald green ruffly silk mini dress on page 203 of this months Elle that would disguise your tum and shoe off your legs, its would look so good with reallt flashy killer heels and this seasons chunky gold.
Its £90 in All Saints.

Hi Nursie - thanks for your reply!
I've got (very) curly hair that's naturally a light brown but with blond highlights, and unfortunately very pale skin!
Emerald green sounds lovely, but I don't know where I could a) find a dress like that but more importantly b) find a flattering one!
Any ideas? Thanks again!

Well, proms tend to be a bit more ball gown-style, posh hair, so your descrip is kind of there! :)
I absolutely love All Saints - I'll check out Elle, thanks! The only problem is that I'm concerned that, as you say it's a mini dress, it might be too short?
