Accessories for 50's style dress?
Accessories for 50's style dress?
Hi,
I have bought this gorgeous dress from Zara (sorry I have no piccies) which is silk and kind of a 50s style.
Basically it is a low cut V neck, nips in really tight at the waist (where it is ruched) and then flows outwards in an A line style. Makes me look very curvy which is why I think it's 50s style.
It's white with a bright orange pattern hence why it's a bit weird but I do like it and my description doesn't do it justice.
I think because it's quite 'bold' and out there i'm concerned about accessories, does anyone have any recommendations?
I cannot afford new shoes so I am wearing strappy white kitten heels but I need bag and accessory advice! I will be wearing it to a summer party, my birthday party and a wedding!
I am shopping this week for something but i'm lost as to what to do, so lost i'm thinking of returning what is in fact a gorgeous dress :(
Sorry this is so long!

It sounds lovely.
With orange and white, I might be tempted to go with turquoise, minty green, silver, brown or tan accessories, the exact shades depending on the shade of orange - if it's a bright zesty colour then if you go for something other than neutrals (tan or brown) I think you'd need to match it with an equally fresh and zingy colour for accessories. Accessorise would be my first port of call.

It is a very bright orange.
I could go for brown/tan accessories, but would they look nice with white shoes? I have smart brown flip flops, but I wanted to wear heels to a party. I have already tried the dress with silver shoes and silver bag/accessories and it looked really silly IMO!
What style of earrings/necklace/bag do you suggest? It's not just colour i'm worried about but style!

With a bright orange, turquoise it is then - I think that would work with your white shoes. I'd go with gorgeous dangly earrings or a necklace, not both, depending on what you plan to do with your hair. For necklaces, I'd go with something fairly short (or else long beads), but I reckon just about any style would work. As for bags, I'd definitely go with a clutch, maybe with a cute bow, or sequins.
I still think silver, turquoise and white and orange could look fab, but I'll take your word for it that it didn't work!!

I have turquoise shoes and bag at home actually  I didn't even think of styling them together!!!
I guess because I am usually very classic in style, and although the cut of the dress is perfect for me, the colour is taking some getting used to (Mr PR doesn't like it but sod him!!). I just made myself not buy yet ANOTHER black dress!
I'll wear my hair down and curly (it's long dark brunette) so will probably opt for a nice turquoise necklace.
I'll defo have a look in Accessorize!
