New dress help
Yesterday I had an absolutely amazing time in The Brick Lane/Spitelfields area (Bibbitybob - with a fresher image in my mind of what it's like, you'll absolutely love it :D ). I found one shop in particular, called The Shop which sells beautiful clothes, I think second hand, really cheap. I got this gorgeous 50s style white dreaa with a black and red leaf print and a crossed back. It was only 14 pounds. However, there are a number of drawbacks which I hoped you might be able to help me with...
The biggest draw back is the length. It's somewhere midcalf. This is a problem because really that makes it too long to wear casually, or over jeans. I am terrible at sewing and have absolutely no idea how I could shorten it. Taking it to the tailors could work out the same price as the dress and I don't really think that's worth it.
The other problem is the back - you can see my bra straps when you wear it because the dress is a criss crossed design. Braless isn't really an option. ANy suggestions on that front?
Anyway, I really reccomend that shop to you because I think it's an absolute jewel :D I also went into this sample sale when I went there, but it was only open from the 13th to the 16th of April. It's amazing - there were all these amazing teeshirts reduced from like 50 to 25 pounds (obviously still too expensive for me :p ), but I found a lovely mickey mouse teshirt from ink and print which I've been looking for for aaaaages in MY size for a tenner! Sorry about that last bit - abit of bragging there really
Thanks in advance

ooo not bad !! Id love to have a look, but dont have a clue where the The Brick Lane/Spitelfields area (cant be anywhere near me :( .. oh well..)
But back to your dress.. well am not sure about the taking it up bit, but for the bra
you could get one of them sticky on thingys, i seen loads in T G Hughes (if theres one near you), they were the chicken fillet material stick on ones though, only abowt 2 quid..i got one and it works good, it stays on good too, and once you wash it the stick comes bak :)
if you want a better sticky on one, thats made of material, have a look in Marks and Spencers or somewhere a bit more up market lol, but i reckon they will of started to do the material stick on bras in cheapers places now too ..

It's in London :)
That's a good suggestion for one night out, etc, but what about if you just want to wear it generally throughout the summer\?

Answers:

id say the stick on bras too, they are ok to use, providing you're not after it for support.
for the length, it doesn't take much sewing knowledge to hem it. Have you got any family members/friends who are more handy with a sewing machine than you? Otherwise, you can get hemming tape from places like John lewis, which removes the need to sew

Hemming tape sounds great! Thanks Ohara
Well I went to a friend who's a sewing expert and she says she wouldnt want to do it because the material is quite 'fluid' (anyone know what is menat by that?) and she wouldn't wannt to mess it up and my best bet if I really wanted it short was to take it to a drycleaner who would probably do it for 4ish pounds
