I could really do with some advice please 0/t
Hey
I know that this isnt the right forum but this is where i spend most of my here time and in the past i have gotten good advice from baggers
Im currently working as a civil servant, its pays the bills at the moment but its not something i want to do permanently.
Im 25 and i feel like life is passing me by.When i was younger i always had a idea of what i wanted to do in life.Im not talking about love, family etc but more careers and genearlly doing something that leaves me feeling fullfilled.
I now feel like im aimlessly wandering through life and its getting me down.I have no enthusiasm for any type of career path.I have the want to explore new stuff but i dont know how to go about this.
A few months ago i went to careers scotland and sought info about a career in the care sector,i even started doing voluntary work.BUt i have no enthusiasm and no motivation.
I feel like im stuck in a point where i dont know where to turn.Sometimes i cry because i feel like if i was say 10 years old or soemthing and i meet myself just now id feel ashmed of me.I guess i just feel im wasting my life away.Im a good person with a spark about me and want to enjoy this and use it!
I had thought about counselling to maybe seek out why i have no drive etc, that is about the only thing i can think to do to get myself out this circle.
As i said i guess im just looking for some advice if possible and similar experiences,to make me feel better!
Many thanks!

I had some brief sessions of counselling a couple of years ago, it only amounted to 4 in the end but was enough to give myself a boost out of a black hole which I guess may have turned into something more significant so in general I am a great believer in this approach.
Just a suggestion but you say you're a civil servant it may be worth investigating if you can get some counselling paid for through work. It should be confidential and it is generally easier and quicker to get access than through the NHS. Especially as you suggest it may be work / career related.

maybe you need a break from working the 9-5- what about travelling? You can get an Oz visa for I think 2 years now- you can pick up all different kinds of work that maybe you'd never consider over here, maybe you'd find something you love doing and could then do it over here. Plus you'd have fab memories of your time and stories to tell.
I went twice and when I'm feeling sad sat here all alone in my office with noone to talk to I remember that I went and did something cool
I bet you're not the only one who feels fed up with the day to day grind-

right, first of all, stop being so hard on yourself, most of us dont know what we're doing at 25!!!
Sit down and write a list of what you enjoy from work and what you dont i.e
enjoy
working with other people I can be friends with
working for a big organisation with perks
easy commute
clearly defined job role/structure
supervisory
don't enjoy
irregular hours
no job role boundaries
working on my own
travelling
this is what I did when I wanted to change my career and I'm ALOT older than you miss!!!You need to find out about what your true strengths are and what jobs are actually available, have a look on job websites if you need ideas!

Hi fefe
I know what you mean! sometimes when you are stuck in a rut it is hard to get out of it - especially when you are so far down you cant even see what it is that it "wrong" and what would make it "better"
the first thing you need to do is remember that a job is only a job and if it is not making you happy then you owe it to yourself to find one that does. Other people manage on less money- you probably would too!
Your first step I think would be to try to find something away from your work in the evenings that might give you a bit of your spark back... something fun that you would enjoy like a step aerobics or danceercise etc? Then when you feel a bit better about yourself you can look at the wider picture.
Sometimes it is hard to know ourselves what our strenghts are. You could ask a group of friends what they would see you doing as your career - outsiders quite often know more about us than we do ourselves!!
Depression is a horrible thing that can totally debilitate. However, I think its more likely you at a crossroads in life and know its time to choose a path - just dont know which one! One point to remember - no matter how old you get, you are never TOO OLD to live the life you want!!! it just needs the courage to take that leap!
good luck with whatever you choose to do.
