Sheffield!
Sheffield!
OK, so this isn't a STRICTLY fashion question but I wanted help from you glamorous girls!
I don't know Sheffield very well but I am heading up there in a few weeks and would love to know the best shops, bars and restaurants. I'm looking for somewhere a bit swanky and special but not full of footballers wives types. And are there any nice boutiques that aren't too expensive?
Thanks for all your help :)

For what you're looking for I think you probably want either:
The Devonshire Quarter linky - which is centred around one street in the city centre. There are lots of "trendy" bars and accompanying clothes shops selling brand labels. For nightlife you might want to try The Forum - which is a cafe by day and a bar/club by night. IMHO the boutiques on this street are a little samey and not distinctive - same old labels etc. but there are a couple of little indie shops selling quirky stuff, vintage heres etc. You might want to check out a couple of the side streets for Vintage Vixen (nicely packaged vintage boutique) and Gash (very well promoted boutiquey sex shop - you know the sort of place, lacquered floors, expensive undies alongside the, er, toys). It's all a bit style over substance, but you'll find plenty of shopping.
The other area you might like is Ecclesall Road, just out of town to the west of the city. It's far more laid back but despite the leafiness has a fair complement of boutiques, gift shops, bars and restaurants. Sharrow Vale Road just behind it has more boutiques and a rather lovely deli. Also a fair few students but you can generally tell the difference between the studenty bars and the more expensive ones.
If you eat out go to Nonnas. It's the best Italian in town. They also have an expensive, but very nice attached bar area. It's continental rather than lairy and the high alcohol prices subsidise the free savoury pastries they bring out during the evening. If Sheffield had a Notting Hill, it would be Ecclesall Road.

Theres quite a nice boutique shop on/near division street called seasons which has really nice stuff in it and is quite expensive. But yeah a few of the other boutique shops are quite the same. Theres a shop called brother to brother which sells retro labels, but the womens section is quite small.
For bars, vodka revolution and crystal are more the swanky type of bars, also Takapuna is nice too. Never been but ive heard runaway girl bar is nice.

i Went there a couple of weeks ago for a weekend away...i found it reall strange cos theyre wasnt any areas as such that have all the bars etc in it, theres a few well knows ones by john lewis like RSVP, ASK and wetherspoons. as for shops meadowhall shopping centre is the best as i wouldnt say there is a real shopping area in the city centre.
BTW beware of the roads they are SO confusing...its all one way systems and many small roads are used as if they are main roads!!
