Tshirt into dress... HELP!
Tshirt into dress... HELP!
Ok so i am about to become the proud owner of a XL tshirt with quite a large logo on which my local music forum designed years ago. We're having a reunion gig in August as over the past few years people have drifted off into jobs/uni, and everyone who was part of the original music community is going to be wearing their tshirts.
I'd quite like some ideas about how I could transform an XL tshirt into a dress/more flattering top (bearing in mind I am size 10, 5'4).
I was thinking possibly something strappy or bandeau. I think a few of you know how to make bandeau tops and I would LOVE if you could let me in on the secret :) I would of course be wearing it with footless tights underneath so don't need to worry about it being too short, as long as it covers my bum!

I am doing exactly the same thing at the mo but with and XL I:throb: NY tee fudge!!
I think i'm going to use the outline of one of my long racer back tee's. So cut off the arms and quite a bit underneath, scoop the neckline quite low ish and draw the racer outline on the back before cuttin it! I'll probably leave all the egdes raggedy and trim the hem at the bottom so it matches!.
I would like to know how to make bandeau tops though so will be keeping my eye out for suggestions!!

To make a bandeau, you'd need to cut the top part of the shirt away, i.e. straight across, so the neck part and sleeves are cut away so it forms a basic bandeau shape. You'd then need to buy some elastic and hem the top around that - only problem being, that if the top is large as it is, the bandeau wouldn't stay up and you'd then need to alter the width!!
Is there not a way you could wear the shirt pulled down off one shoulder? Bit 80's I know but it could work if there's enough give.

I think it's quite simple to make a bandeau out of a large tee, it just might take some patience.
Firstly cut straigh across from under the sleeves so you are left with a tube piece of material. Then unpick one of the sides of stitching, place on top another bandeau you have, to make them the same size. When you do this, make sure you line up the edge of of with the side of the top you havn't picked the stitching out of. On the side you have undone, roll under the material until it's the same size as your other top. Pin it, turn it inside out and sew up there.
You will probably also need to hem over the top of the bandeau, adding a wide band of elastic. The bottom may also need to be shortened as it's an XL top, but then thats up to you.
I hope that helps!
