Megabus (or National Express) Luggage Allowance
Megabus (or National Express) Luggage Allowance
On the Megabus website it says:
Passengers are advised that megabus.com will accept up to one piece of luggage per passenger weighing no more than 20kg and no larger than the size of a standard suitcase. Passengers can also take on board one piece of hand luggage up to the size of a small to medium sized hold-all. megabus.com cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate any excess baggage and passengers who bring along excess baggage may be refused travel.
Does anyone know if on the day they would be likely to allow me to put more luggage in the luggage compartment??? Last time i used Magabus the luggagge compartment was nearly empty...
National Express say:
We ask that each passenger only brings a maximum of two medium sized suitcases weighing no more than 20kg each and one piece of hand luggage with them when travelling by coach. If you do carry more than this allowance we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate the excess baggage. Space can often be of a premium and we cannot predict what luggage other passengers on the same journey may bring.
Again the same question, does anyone know if i could push the limit a bit to include a big box??
I'm moving to London in one week's time from uni halls and the best option i have at the moment is to get a coach then cab it to the uni halls i'll be staying in over the summer....
Any advice from people's experiences of using National Express and/or Megabus and luggagge allowance would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks.

I think it depends what route you are using - my route home with NE went via Heathrow and there was always loads of luggage, especially at end of term times.
Bear in mind that there are restrictions on how much the drivers are allowed to lift so your box cannot weigh too much. You will also struggle getting from the coach (assume this is Vic coach station) to a taxi if you have too much luggage.
My suggestion is that if you choose to do this that you book two seats and therefore get 2 lots of luggage allowance and a comfy journey.

Thanks for your reply - i'm going a few days before the end of term so hopefully that means it'll be a bit less busy and its a 7.50am coach...i just booked my ticket and it was £1!!!
I didn't think about getting off the coach at the coach station and getting to a taxi...i will need to look into where taxis park at/near the coach station and how far it will be...i have never been to Victoria Coach Station..
seriously if i book two seats i get two lots of luggage allowance in the same journey??? that would be great and i never would have thought of it myself!!
Sorry i had meant to put this post in general chat!! otherwise would have stated its off-topic!!! I can't edit the title now!!
right ammended my booking to two seats - second seat cost me £3, thanks so much Waxy Bean!!
It doesn't matter if i struggle to get to a cab as long as i can very slowly make my way to one! Its just a one off journey!
