What do women with orthotics actually wear in the summer?!

What do women with orthotics actually wear in the summer?!
Sorry to bring this subject up again...
I have asked a few times if anyone can recommend summer shoes (I know some of you hate the word "sandals", but I want something open-toed) that have a back to them, otherwise my orthotics won't stay in place. I tried a few on, inluding a few pairs in Clarks, but realised that they are half-length orthotics, maybe even three-quarters, so they still stick out at the sides. So I'm still stuck.
What I would really like is to hear from someone who actually wears orthotics themselves, who has found themselves some summery shoes that they can wear! Surely there must be some of these women out there? I keep getting told that thousands of women use orthotics, yet I just don't understand what these women wear in the summer!
I did try Mephisto, who make sandals where you can remove the insole and replace it with your supports. However, you have to remove the entire insole and my orthotics aren't as long as my feet/shoes, so it's no good. Not to mention, their shoes are really frumpy and their staff are really moody and unhelpful, when they're supposed to be the experts.
There must be someone out there!

Sorry to hear about your problems, purplekaren. I'm not much use, but my mum's in the same position and finds buying summer shoes a chore. Just bumping this up to check if anyone can help.

What about peep toe shoes with solid sides? You may not like these particular ones, but just to illustrate what I mean (they're from Tops Shop):
has quite a few shoes which have solid heels&sides, but peep toes. There is a pic of a pair from Monsoon which have sort of cut out sides but still not opensided - would that work?

Thanks for the suggestion there - I just tried on those exact shoes (though in black, not yellow) and although they fitted, they kept slipping off my feet and so I really need something with a strap across the top of my foot.
If anyone else has any suggestions, I would be most grateful. I am really upset today because I'm sitting here in trainers, and I don't see why I should have to keep my toes hidden away in the summer just because I apparently don't walk properly.
I just don't understand where all these women are, and I don't understand why not one single shoe shop manager knows what to do when they keep saying how thousands of women use orthotics. It just doesn't make any sense :(

Aww, you poor thing. :( Sorry, I'm not stalking you or anything - the only reason I keep replying to these threads is because I've got problems with one of my feet and I'm thinking I may need to get orthotics too, but when I tried some (not custom made though) in my regular shoes, the shoes no longer fitted and that's REALLY putting me off investigating this at all - will it mean I have to bin all my other lovely (expensive) shoes? I'd almost rather be in pain... :o
What I'm wondering is: isn't the place you got the orthotics from at all helpful? Surely they must know where people go to buy shoes or be able to put you in touch with someone who can help? Or some other podiatrist/physio? Do you have to wear the orthotics every single day or could you get away with wearing sandals and no orthotics on hot days?
Sorry, not v helpful... :(
