Beware of Badgers (totally O/T!!)
Okay - not sure how to start this, but I swear that this actually happened to me this morning.
I often go for a walk in the countryside near my house - it's not particularly rural - I stick to a path which has fields and parkland either side of it.
I was walking on the path this morning and a little way in the distance, what I thought was a medium sized dog run across the path and went into some woodland. I assumed it was a dog being walked by its owner so I continued walking.
I then reached the end of the path and turned to go back. As I began walking back, the 'dog' materialised again - it wasn't a dog - it was a ruddy enormous badger. Being educated as to the real nature of badgers (ie: bad tempered and very apt to bite you) I decided to take the other side of the path.
Big mistake. The badger saw me move and literally charged at me until it was just a few feet away. I literally had nowhere to run, there was no-one else around either. I just stood still. The badger sat in front of me, eyeing me up with suspicion. And then it got on its hind legs and bared its claws and teeth and hissed at me like a big scary cat. Yikes ain't the word.
I had no option but to stand still and wait for him to basically attack me. Thank God I didn't budge - he realised I wasn't a predator and scarpered off into the bushes. I don't mind telling you I was more than a little bit freaked out.
Anyway, I left the parkland pretty ruddy quickly. The moral of the story is - if you're going walking in rural areas, take a big stick or a big bloke with you!! Now Fashion girlies - I'm going to need some new underwear........any ideas?!!

Oh my fooking God, the horrible little thing! I'd have had a heart attack! :o
I'm absolutely petrified of dogs- so much so I flung my arms in te air walking down the street the other day when I heard an unexpected bark across the road- god knows what I'd do when faced with a badger! :faint:
How long was the wait?? whilst you were frozen and it was eyeing you up I mean?
Answers:
It was probably no more than a couple of minutes - though it felt like forever.
I kept trying to look around me to find a large stick or something to defend myself with, but nothing doing!! I literally had no option to stand there and just hope to God it got bored.
It's funny cos I love animals, and that's the first time I've ever felt physically threatened by one - dogs, even big uns, aren't a problem for me at all.
Twas very scary - luckily I can see the funny side now. Won't be doing that walk for a while though!!

There has actually been a local news story here about a badger charging at people in a library car park. Apparently the surrounding area is woodland & they think the badger has a sett with young nearby.
It hasn't hurt anyone but has scared the pants off a few!
