Has anyone returned anything to Zara before?

Has anyone returned anything to Zara before?
I bought a dress a month ago for some summer parties and my birthday (which was last week) from Zara. I started a few threads asking for accessory suggestions.
Anyway I wore it at a party and it was fine, I even had the shoulers altered slightly as it was a bit too low cut.
I took it to Rome for my birthday on Thursday and the zip got stuck half way up, and wouldn't move up or down. There was a small hole next to the zip. In the end we had to really pull/rip the zip down just to get me out of the dress :boohoo:
As this is clearly faulty, can I take it back to Zara and get an exchange/refund OK? Even though I altered it? The break in the zip obviously has nothing to do with the alterations but i'm concerned that they won't take it back as I hear that shops like this can be fussy.
Mr PR is telling me not to tell them that I had wore it before and it was fine, but I think that will only strengthen my case that it's faulty?
It cost £40 and I really can't get the zip fixed as it's buggered so I just want another dress, or a refund!!!!
What do you all think?
(sorry for long post i'm really mad as it was my birthday 'outfit' to wear in a posh restaurant in Rome and it was ruined :( )

I've found Zara to be quite funny about refunds - they are happy to take anything back which is still tagged, with receipts and within 28 days. I am not certain whether they would do it if you're missing any of those things.
I would say you hadn't worn it and the zip was faulty and see what they say. You can only try, but don't get your hopes up cos they are quite sniffy about things.

I have the recipt and it's within 28 days.
But it is obviously faulty i'm just wondering if they'll see it's been altered and refuse to take it back!
I can't wear it though!!!!!!!
ETA: Just managed to un-sew where it was altered and you can't see the marks at all! Obviously I did that bad a job at sewing and because it's silk-like you can't tell! Fingers crossed!

Hey there, I don't know about Zara and how snooty they get but it's the law that they have to refund it!
I'm paraphrasing from the legislation here but I think it's in the Goods and Services Act that it's an implied term in any sales contract that the goods are fit for it's intended purpose (in this case fit for being worn!)
And any fault perceived in the first 6 months from the date of purchase is deemed to have been present at the time of buying and therefore the consumer is entitled to a full refund in the method that they originally paid. Any fault percieved after this window of time has to be proven to be present at the time of purchase.
Being a law student has it's advantages I suppose!
Edited for crappy spelling!

Yeah the sale of goods act 1979 (studied it in business law)
Thing is, i've worn it around the house (and at the party) and it was fine.
Shall I just say this is the first time I wore it since trying it on and it snapped?
It's still faulty but i'm just worried they'll say I broke the zip!
Maybe my fat did!!!!
