Holiday wardobe 'issues'

Holiday wardobe 'issues'
Ok, I'm a bit rubbish at packing- I either take way too much and stick to the same things or take hardly anything and then regret not bringing what I've left at home  (I'm not the only one that does this am I?)
This summer I'm off to the Maldives for 18 days and whilst I'm looking forward to laying on a beach reading for the entire time I'm also worried about what to take. Any ideas of what to take and how many of each?
Trivial? Perhaps. But seeing as I've worked my backside off to get this holiday I want to make sure it's fab in every way!
Please help!
:(

well seen as i never go away for that long (lucky you!) i will tell you what i pack for 7 days:
2 pairs of jeans (one that can be dressed up)
pair of combats
pair of flat sandals
pair of heels
pair of shoes
2 skirts (if i can be bothered!!)
a combo of vest tops, 1/2 jumpers (depending on time of year), a cover up cardie, and some t shirts.
couple of going out tops
hmm that seems like a lot doesnt it? i think thats why i have a suitcase that i can pull along!!

i'm so jealous! i :throb: the maldives!
i'll assume you're staying at an island resort since there isn't really much else there. you can pretty much leave the shoes at home, you'll only leave them in the room anyway if it's that kind of place. you probably won't need any eveningy shoes at all but maybe take 1 pair to make sure. take plenty of t-shirts, it's always nice to have a clean one to change into. at least three bikinis, you don't want to be lying around in a wet one :yuck: and i assume you'll get into the water. dive if you can, it'd almost be criminal not to, but you MUST go snorkelling if it's not an option. bring a big loose tee for that, or if you can find one of those uv-blocking shirts get one, they can be a a lifesaver, much more effective than sunscreen. try to wear swimming shorts, men's if all else fails, for snorkelling because it's very easy to burn your bum :o well i always do because i stick it out of the water to get momentum for a deeper dive.
how dressy evenings are really depends on the resort but it's likely to be very casual. linen and cotton are good materials in general.. you may want a few jumpers of some sort since they can be rather fond of the air-con in hotels...
you're staying for a while so i guess you have to find a balance between the price of laundry and excess baggage.. half as many of most things as days would probably be good, more than that and your bag will probably be too heavy, although you would save a lot of weight with leaving most of the shoes at home. i'll see if i can come up with a definite list later, i tend to overpack but i do know what i REALLY need if i have to keep the weight down.
oh and don't bother with jeans, it's much too hot. unless you insist on travelling in them but i really wouldn't, it's hardly comfortable!
