What should I wear?
What should I wear?
Another one, sorry!
Anyway, I'm having a dinner party tomorrow and have no idea what to wear - all the creativity went into planning the menu! :p
I like to get a bit dressed up - not smart as such but an evening take on my normal slightly quirky/offbeat style. I have masses of clothes, but can't think of anything to wear at all that doesn't feel tired or boring somehow
I was looking speculatively at the stripy skirt on page, or maybe the black velvet skirt-as-dress with a funky belt and flat sandals, but I dunno, my brain's frazzled :cmdunno:
Any ideas gratefully received - inspire me please, ladies - pretty please?! I'm clean out of ideas!

How dressed up is dressed up g_k? And are we talking dinner party posh, or informal?
I love that stripy skirt, I'd possibly wear it with a white vest (perhaps in a slinky fabric if you have it, rather than jersey), lots of long beads, some big earrings and wedges? Or how about with a black vest, and a belt in the colour of one of the stripes, if you have one?
Possibly not very helpful, I'm all out on dressing "up" at the mo, I'm feeling slightly self conscious for some reason and am tending to dress down up instead of up up, if you know what I mean?

I'd go with the stripey skirt GK, the colours are gorgeous and open up lots of possibilities regarding accessorising, plus it would be more suitable to the current sunny weather than the black velvet I think? :)

Ah, well, it's meant to be raining up here tomorrow, hence the reappearance of wintry fabrics!!
I've got a few things I can try with the skirt, but somehow it doesn't quite fit my mood atm somehow, if you get what I mean! Might try a couple of other things with it and see what I think.
Cheers ladies!

I love dressing up for dinner parties too - I think its part of the hosting and its always a good excuse to wear something 'difficult' because you don't have any transport issues affecting heel height, have to worry about it being cold when coming home, might rain etc etc
I would probably wear a little white short sleeve t-shirt with the black velvet skir over as a top, a hip-slung belt, ankle-length leggings and very high 'statement' heels OR ankle booties OR knee-high boots and then I would wear some bangles (maybe one large one pushed up near your elbow so it doesn't get in the way of cooking), a giant ring on your opposite hand pointy finger, no watch (because you're the hostess and you don't have to worry about time) and a few necklaces, preferably the longest hanging down to about belly button and the shortest being above the boob-line of the skirt (but could be affected by neckline of the t-shirt.
I would also wear my hair up but with tousled bits hanging down in a loose chignon. you could pop a fresh flower in if one of your guests brings fresh flowers or if you have one spare from the table ?
gawd - just looked back over that and it is pretty specific huh - think I want to wear this outfit now !
BUT, it might be over-accessorised so maybe lose the bangle and just have a big ring, the necklaces and the flower at the back of your hair so you're accessorised from behind too.
