O/T NY in November?
O/T NY in November?
Hi everyone,
I'm seriously thinking about going to NY in November around Thanksgiving for a week.
Is the city at a complete standstill around that time? Also the sales are on too in Nov aren't they?
Where would you suggest staying? I'm on a budget of say £50 max a night.
There's a possibility I may be going on my own as my friends are umming and ahhing and I can't be bothered to hang about only to be let down at the last minute.
I've never been to NY before and I figure I'll get more shopping done on my own anyway
 :p
Just wanted to hear everyone's experiences of the city, especially if you've travelled there in Nov before.
Oh and I presume it'll be freezing in Nov too won't it?
I've posted on Travel but it's so slow and I can't find that huuuuuuuge thread on NY on there either!
Thank you! Thank you! :)

I've not been in November, but have been there for New Year and it was chaos as they closed off about 10 blocks around Time Square which made getting around really difficult, so I would check to see if they do a big event in Time Square & avoid if they are.
The first time I went we went cheaply & stayed here http://starhotelny.com Single rooms are probably within your budget, but if you want to go really cheap, they have dormitory rooms. Madonna apparently used to live in this hotel before she was famous!

The NY marathon is in Nov, must check when. That hotel looks cute. I'd rather not stay in a dormitory room though, I can see it being my luck that I come back to find an empty suitcase and a sock left where all my belongings were!!
I'm still trying to find at least one person who wants to come too but everyone's being so difficult whinging that they're broke, etc - you'd think the money had to be paid tomorrow

:yay: One of my friends says he'll come with me if i can find a super-dooper deal (he's a boy! ;) ).
I saw this sight rec'ed on another NY thread on Travel and it's well in my budget.

i.e One of the apartments is for $189 a night - that'd be £54 a night each for my friend and I - Bargain and the apartments are all gorgeous!!! Way better than any hotel!
I don't suppose anyone's used them before? :)

Not sure how much going in November would cost but I always use the same agent for a week including return flights with Virgin or BA and a good central hotel for £425.
Let me know if you want their details Caramel, the guy is very nice!
