How to clash with style?
How to clash with style?
hey
One of the main styles I am hoping to be wearing this summer is the colourful, clashing in a good way, cool style - lots of bright colours which don't match layered, different cuts, different patterns, different textures etc.
However, I rarely seem to be able to pull the look off with the edginess taht I imagined the outfit with before I wore it, the one exception that I have is my assymetrical purple green and coral beading top with a sequin headband, but that is one tshirt which was actually GIVEN to me and probably very expensive in the first place so I can't go buying stuff from THAT shop. I have concluded that most of my clothes and too pastelly and wintry to work this look, so I was wondering if you knew of any places where I could buy nice stuff moderately cheap and what to wear it with?
My budget is around 10-15 for a top, I'm not sure for other garments.
Thanks!

Hiya!
I like this look. I call them Matthew Williamson colours - pink, turquoise, purple, yellow but I think you need to mix them with denim or neutrals for that not-trying-too-hard look. Or you could go for coloured denim with neutral tops, scarves etc. I just received the latest newsletter from www.ilovejeans.com which tells you all the stores (high st included) that are doing bright jeans. I would wear mine with a clashing T-shirt from somewhere like Gap and then more pastelly colours to tone it down. I think two clashing brights is enough.
Another thing is I have an olive skintone so can carry off bright colours next to my skin. If you are pale you would be better off with a softer colour next to your face and brights further away (skirts, jeans, accessories)!!

thanks :) I will check out that website.
I have pretty pale skin, but I like to emphasise that so I would prefer to wear bright colours near my face anyway.
The sort of thing I meant more than colourful jeans though is this for example (i have none of th below items, btw, but i saw someone wearing it  ):
-Open white with pink flowers blouse over
-Turquoise ribbed vest over
-Yellow ribber vest
with
-denim miniskirt and
-black tights
-and gold glittery pumps
with a bright blue patterned headscarf, bright pink nail polish (i already have the perfect polish) and wooden bangle
I thought the outfit looked great, but i don't know where to get that sort of stuff, especially the blouse

I take a lot of cues from people I see on the street and stylediaries, as well as doing this:
I put a selection of accessories, tops, bottoms and shoes on my bed and take a step back and try to put them together in my mind in different, less than obvious ways. Then I have a trying on session and what works, I wear (what doesn't, I take off very quickly! It may seem a bit too much intellectual energy to spend on clothes but I like doing it and it keeps my outfits quirky without much expense!
