Clothes for a big wobbly belly!
Clothes for a big wobbly belly!
I know I'm not a regular poster on here but I could really do with some advice to help my mom out. She's a size 16 but basically because she has huge boobs (G cup, I think) and a big wobbly belly. She's got great arms and fantastic legs, and a beautiful chest area but she's getting really depressed because we've been trying to find summer clothes for the past couple of weeks but her belly always causes trouble! Basically she's got a lot of overhanging flesh (having two children and not toning up, I guess) and it's making it really difficult to find tops that flatter her up top without showing all her wobble. She really needs some new jeans but they all just leave a roll of fat at the top.
She's 51 but very stylish (and gorgeous) so I really want to help her out, but I'm getting stuck as to what to suggest. She really hates those suck-you-all-in pants because she says she feels uncomfortable and, short of a tummy tuck, I don't know what she's going to do! I've looked in the original Trinny and Susannah book and I know the general rules of what to get, but none of it seems to exist in the real world, and certainly the trouser thing is a big issue. How do you get round this?!
Answers:
I can recommend empire line tops (these go in just under the bust and are loose around the tummy area) as I find these very flattering, and I am quite a few sizes larger than your mum.
With regards to trousers, it is difficult. I tend to buy mid to low waisted trousers and just wear longer line tops over the top so my delightful 'muffin' doesn't poke through.
If she's really self conscious you can get really good shorts and underwear that 'hold you in' - these are much better than the corsets that used to be around many years ago and really suck you in but are still comfy. You can get them in department stores, online lingerie websites, TV shopping channels, pretty much anywhere.
Hope this is useful!

Well I'm not a size 16 but here's what I find looks quite nice:
*Drawstring linen pants (this way you can adjust a non-muffin creating size)
*Ribbed vests (Maybe its me but I find they are more comfy and make my little belly feel less obvious) worn under..
*Thin ballet wraps ( I bought a nice light cotton ballet wrap from Ms S- they do them in light pink, grey and striped)
*Light wrap dresses so you can choose how tight or loose you want it
*Low slung jeans and cargo pants
*Casual fit tshirts that are fitted but more of a looser fit than skinny tshirts, can wear them layered with long line vests which will help skim over any muffin effect

Not the best advice as it may make the top not fit well everywhere else but i've taken to buying the next size up so it skims the belly area.
