How do you find your "style"?

How do you find your "style"?
I'm in a bit of a rut from a style point of view...
I live in black trousers, black jeans and plain t-shirts endlessly - what I really want to wear is long floaty skirts, sparkly jewellery and basically anything velvety... I have always loved the boho/ goth/gypsy look... I am absolutely broke but need a new look before I fade away into boring mediocre.... I rarely spend money on clothes as I have none, so I end up wearing the same stuff over and over again - functional though it is fun it aint... Ideas pleeease!
Thanks

I have a 'look book', where I tear out any looks or items from magazines that I like, and stick in there. Also try searching along style diarys, as I find them pretty good for inspirational.
You can get high fashion stuff really cheaply, places like primark, peacocks, and the supermarket clothes create some pretty decent stuff

I would suggest going to somewhere like H&M as it is pretty cheap but has lots of different styles of clothes. Take a pile of stuff into the changing room & experiment. Do you have anyone else you could take shopping with you? My mum & sisters are very good at encouraging me to try on things that I wouldn't normally go for - I used to be very much a black trousers & plain top wearer, but am gradually getting much better.

It sounds as if you'd probably like vintage stuff. Have a scout around the local charity shops they are great for bargains. I love velvet too and have found some brilliant stuff in charity shops.
O'hara's suggestion of getting together a 'look book' would give you a clearer idea of what you're looking for. Good luck with it :)

I'm constantly finding it :D I used to dress very casually even boyish when I was around 17-18 - a proper little mosher ;)
And now although I like to look smarter, more 'with it' fashion-wise and more feminine, I still occasionally revert back to my sloppy roots and I've settled on being a comfy dresser. Comfy can still be sexy but I just can't be doing with fussy clothes or anything too tight or too short :p
I think it's a good idea to buy a couple of good magazines every month and flick through and like ohara said, make a 'look book'.
