What is this black rash around my son's mouth?
Hi,
My 10 year old son just returned from his dad's for the summer - with a very noticible black "ring" around his whole mouth. When you glance at him he appears to have a mustache, but of course it's not a mustache. I am assuming this is some kind of rash. It does not hurt, but it is quite unattractive.
How can I get rid of this? What is this? Did it come from excessive lip licking, or what?
My son is African American.

I think it could be from excessive lip licking, especially if you've noticed that his lips are chapped or red. I would try a bit of penaten cream around his mouth where the rash is when he goes to bed for the night and see if that helps.
