food allergies

my 10 year old son was "diagnosed" yesterday with an allergy to chicken and turkey. how weird is that? he has always had issues with eating them and i am glad we finally saw an allergist to confirm. because this is so rare, i can't seem to find any info online about it. the allergist was shocked as well. he has only seen/heard of one other case in his office. so he wasn't really any help in giving me information either. i went to the library this morning but most of the food allergies pertain to the obvious like eggs, shellfish, peanuts etc...

whenever ds had chicken, he immediately would feel sick, throat would feel like it was closing up, eyes watering. all the usual symptoms of an allergic reaction. we had frozen pizza today and the pepperoni was made with beef, pork and chicken. he was fine! i am confused as to what he is allergic to.

if anyone knows of any literature on allergies please let me know where i can find it! the doctor wrote out a prescription for an epi pen but he never had a reaction that bad before. he would take one bite of the chicken, get the reaction and move on.

thanks for any replies!!!

Tinytoes, maybe your son didn't react to the pepperoni because the amount was too small. Yes, I have heard about allergies to meats. My daughter had them and I know others who had them too. I remember your post before when you were questioning the allergy.
