Getting 19 month old to bed without fight
My little 19 month old has always been a wonderful sleeper. She has slept through the night since she was 2 months old. Only when she is sick does she have problems.
Well for the past week and a half she doesn't want to go to sleep. Her bedtime is 9 PM and we have our little ritual of brushing her teeth and I rock her for like 5 minutes to get her relaxed. I then take her to her room and we say a prayer and I tuck her in. WEll now she clings to me when I go to lay her down and cries. She stands at the crib and whails. I tell her I will see her in the morning and leave. This lasts anywhere from 5 minuts to sometimes longer.
What should I do? I have been reading books but I thought I would ask some experienced parents that have had to deal with this as well. Is this separation anxiety? Sometimes she seems scared other times I think she wants to stay up with us.
What do you all think about this?
Oh and after she goes to sleep she doesn't wake up at all during the night.
Thanks, Dolphin

Have you tried just letting her scream? It sounds crazy, but if you just ignore her screaming, she will eventually stop - no child can scream without taking a break for too long. Another suggestion is this: I'm no pediatrician, but could you possibly give her a bit of NyQuil a couple hours before her bedtime?
I don't think this is separation anxiety as much as it is just your daughter not wanting to sleep when you want her to - I would say this is common for a child her age.

Well it sounds like we have identical children. My DD has been sleeping through the night since 6 weeks old. No problems. She is now 24 months old. She still does wonderful. She is in a toddler bed and has been for a few months now. I thought we would start having problems with her staying in her bed now. If she wakes at night it's because she is sick. She has never just woke up. We haven't had any trouble. Sometimes she will get really upset and cling onto me. It's really hard, but i have to put her off me and force myself out the door. She will scream so loud when the door shuts. Sometimes she will be like i have to potty(we are trying to potty train), or i want a drink. I believe it all more that she just wants to stay up with me. I don't think anything is wrong or anything. She will only cry for a few minutes and then sleeps through the night no problems.
I say keep doing what your doing and just let her cry it out for a few minutes. I don't think it hurts to let them cry for a few minutes. My DD is usually out in 5 minutes. Doesn't ever take her long. If she was screaming and crying for like 30 minutes or so i would try to rock her or something. She has only done that if she has woken up sick. Never before bed. Your doing fine.

We've just been through this a couple of weeks ago with my 19month dd. One day she was fine the next night clinging to me and screaming! It lasted a week and then suddenly it stopped and now she's going to bed like a dream. I can't leave her to cio 1) I don't belive in it and 2) she would fall head first out of her crib so I just sat in the room with her till she fell asleep 20mins at most
