car seats and kids

our daughter hates riding in the car. unless of course we play a dvd movie for her. she says her car seat is uncomfortable, so we put a small pillow behind her and she doesnt complain that the seat is hurting her back anymore. she would complain every once in a while. or she would say something else to try and get her out of the seat or the car. she has never complained of her back and is in dance/gymnastics other than a few times in the car. is this ok to do? does this mess up anything w/the seatbelt and safety by putting the pillow there?
Answers:

I wouldn't think it would hurt anything to put a pillow there. It just makes her more comfertable but if you are still worried just go to your local police dept. or health dept.s can usually tell you if this is ok. Good luck.
Answers:

All car seats are not equal. Perhaps a different brand/model car seat would be moe comfortable for her.

Is she is the little kid type car seat or she sitting in the older child type seat?

Like adults, children need to sit in a comfortable well fitting car seat.

Does your daughter complain about the seat only after she has been to dance/gymnastics? If so, the activity may be aggrevating a problem she has.
Answers:

I guess the thing that comes to mind is you are not supposed to put them into a seat with a heavy jacket on. The padding can compress in an accident and make the straps loose on them. A pillow may do the same thing. It could be the seat. Our Britax Roundabout is super padded and soft. We also have a Recarro and it is really padded and soft.
Answers:

The other thing to bear in mind is whether her head will be fully protected.
The upper side wings of the seat are there for head protection and if the pillow moves her head forward it may not protect her fully.
