formula feeding questions
Hi. I have a 3 month old boy who was born at 8 lbs 4.8 ounces, and now is 15 pounds. He drinks 4-5 ounces every 2 hours. Is that normal? I'm reading his signals right.I've been giving him water to try to get him to wait, but he gets so mad that I just get the bottle out.and he drinks 4-5 ounces then he burps,I try to give him the bottle after that to find out if he is done and he usually is, but he is hungry 2 hours later. What do I do?
Answers:
I have 5 month old twin boys that now weigh about 15 lbs. They basically do the same your son is doing. Ever since they were born they eat every 2-3 hours. They generally get 1 oz of breastmilk, then 3-5 oz of formula afterwards. They don't wake to eat overnight, but through the day they are eating every couple of hours.
Answers:
Yes, my daughter was born 8lbs 2 oz and she eats so much. That's okay, they're going through a growth spurt. Also, there will be a time when they eat hardly anything, don't worry, they just stopped growing a bit.
Answers:
I always fed on demand, weather is was formula or breastmilk. Babies typically will not overeat.
Answers:
Healthy babies usually take what they need, when they need and more while having a growth spurt.
Intake requirement is usually 2.1/2 (two plus one half) ozs per LB. body weight over 24 hours.
