27mth old refuses to listen

My 27mth old son is getting really impossible these days. He simply refuses to listen to whatever i say. He keeps doing things he is not supposed to and any amount of "no" goes over his head. He knows what he is doing is wrong and when i yell and make him sit in the corner he realises he has done wrong and says "sorry" but after some time he is back at doing something else. I am a stay at home mom and it gets really tiring to control him. Any suggestions as to how i can discipline him will be appreciated.

Thanks!

I personally think that it's important to establish the limits...if time out is your way of discplining your son for his negative behavior, don't let him saying sorry be the end of his punishment. He's young still, so obviously sitting in time out for 10 minutes isn't happening, but even for 3 minutes, be firm. He can tell you sorry and accept, but let him finish his time out. Set a timer and when it goes off, he is free to get up. I think once children learn that there is an easy way out of their punishment (saying sorry, etc) they use it.

As for the overall listening, don't turn into a nagging mama! If you have to ask him a couple of times, fine, but don't let it turn into 10. If he's distracted by something and he's ignoring you...take it away. He can have it back when he's done what you've asked.

Sounds extreme, I'm sure, but I think you've gotta nip this in the bud. Deal with the lack of listening when he's a teenager!

just a wandering thought here, but have you actually ever had his hearing tested?he may be able to actually 'hear" the yells, but not the lower tones of your voice.just ,like i said,a wandering thought.Marcia
