Going back on BCP after an 7 months...Very Emotional
I decided to go back on BCP after a 7 month break. I had been on the pill for 6 years prior switching between Loestrin, Ortho tricyclen, and Ortho Tricyclen lo. I guess when I had initially started the pill I never really paid attention to the changes in my personailty, but I remember a few years ago was highly irritable especially on orthotricyclen. Very angry, jealous and lethargic. (but it could have been my past situation that made me that way). When I was on ortho tricyclen lo I started getting crippling migraines around the time of my period, I guess caused by the drop in hormones. I read all these articles that were about the effects of hormonal bcp, got scared and decided to stop cold turkey. It took time to become emotionally stable. I'd get really sensitive and cry for the first few months, but my moods evened out tremendously these later months. IF i did get upset I didn't dwell on it. Well I had other issues while being off the pill. My periods were so heavy I went from using regular tampons to super plus/ultra tampons, my period was heavy and lasted a lot longer and my cramps were really bad too. Also, it never comes on the same day, it seems my cycles are getting longer the longer I am off the pill. Thats scary too, since late periods can equal pregnancy. My bf and I use condoms, but sometimes we would start without one.
I figured my best bet was to go back on the pill, i didn't want something too permanent like an IUD or nuvaring so I decided to try out YAZ.
Well I'm 4 pills into the pack and I feel like my old emotional, jealous, pill taking self again. Since I started the pill 6 years ago I can't really remember if I started out this way too. I am ready to quit and take risks of pregnancy and put up with heavy bleeding, I don't want to just stop and not give it a chance, but did anyone start this way on Yaz and become normal after a few months???? any advice is appreciated

I can sympathize about the heavier periods when off the pill. My first period off the pill was awesome because it was the first time ever that I had not a single cramp, not even a little bit! But the 15 years prior while on the pill, my cramps were excruciating.
Anyway, as for the heavy bleeding, I just wanted to share with you what happened to me. I started getting worried after my second period off the pill. It seemed like I was bleeding an awful lot, like more than I could ever remember bleeding before when I tried to quit the pill many years ago. So, then the subsequent period was even more than that! I ended up having to leave work 2 days in a row to change and take a shower because it was so bad! (Sorry if TMI).
So....I decided to check with my newer gynecologist who, instead of just throwing another brand of BCPs at me, said, You know, I'd really like to try to do an ultrasound and see if maybe you have cysts, fibroids or polyps. Because apparently all of the above can cause excess bleeding during periods as well as more pain. I reluctantly said yes, so I scheduled for a day or 2 after my period ended. That was so that allegedly the lining of the uterus should be much thinner when you finish your period because you just got done with shedding the lining during your period, do you follow?
However, I saw the ultrasound screen, the lining looked like it was really abnormally thick! I panicked! I thought that it was endo or something! Well turns out it was polyps. Last year I ended up getting a polypectomy with D&C during a hysteroscopy, which actually helped the amount of flow I had for several months. I found out that being on the pill was merely masking the problem by causing less bleeding, so I never knew how much I was really bleeding until I quit the pill. Unfortunately I found out that at least 1 polyp has grow again in only 5 months so I have to get the whole procedure done over again in a couple of weeks. I'm very upset about it, but at least I was able to recognize that I was having the heavier bleeding again, a problem which would not have been so easy to diagnose, had I went back on the pill again.
My point in telling you my story is to encourage you to seek a gynecologist who can do a vaginal ultrasound to check for polyps or fibroids or something. Because when you have excessive bleeding, it's because those polyps or fibroids actually hold a lot of blood themselves, so they are trying to let it all go too, during your period. And as for the painful cramps it could potentially be because your uterus knows the polyps or fibroids don't belong and it keeps cramping up trying to expel those things but obviously it can't because they are attached. That's why it's important to have that stuff removed.
Go see a gynecologist to get an ultrasound and find out if that is what caused your heavy bleeding. You were off the pill for 7 months, that's great! It's not surprising that you are starting to have the same problems you had before when on the pill. Your body is trying to tell you that it doesn't want the hormones anymore and you're not listening. It's important to listen to your body for ultimate health.

I too started back on the pill after being off for 8 months. Something horrible happened. I started out on OTC Lo and then I was SO dry it hurt. The doctor put me back on OTC (Tri-Sprintec) and everything was better for about 2 days...then something horrible happened. I have had a yeast infection before when I took the pill, but never when I was off. This time, it's SO bad that I have taken 2 difulcan and also have been using an over the counter cream for 2 days so far. This infection is so bad that I am swollen and it burns like no other when I urinate. I can barely get the tube for the cream inside, that is how swollen I am!
I am scared. Should I go see my doctor? I read online that the change in estrogen from going on the pill can cause a yeast infection, but this one is BAD and it's not going away! HELP!!!

Wow, seems pretty intense.
I have kind of a similar story, where I stopped the pill over a year ago and just two months ago started back on the pill. Currently, I'm taking OTC Lo, and have never been so moody and emotional (cry about EVERYTHING!).
I definitely think you should talk to your doctor about this, if you can. Maybe switching to another pill would be a good option? But I'm not too sure about these BC pills, some times I think they're messing with our bodies too much. I wonder if I had NEVER started them if I would be having all the problems I have now with my menstrual cycle...it's like my body relies on it or something.

Thanks. I started on Ortho TC Lo and that's when this problem began. Since I switched to the regular OTC, everything seems fine except I can't get rid of what happened when I started taking the OTC lo. It feels a little better today than it did the first day, but the swelling is what concerns me the most. I've never gone through anything like this. There's no discoloration or anything...just swelling of the tissue surrounding the vaginal opening.
I know it sounds graphic and I'm sorry...but I am really wondering if a yeast infection REALLY could be this bad. Has anyone else ever had something like this happen?
