Depression and the Pill - Can I find one that works?!
I have tried three different types of birth control pills four times, and each time I try a new pill I have severe debilitating depression. I have to stop on the first cycle or soon after.
I know that you are suppose to give it a few cycles to even out but its horrible depression, not something that I could "deal with" for a couple months.
Has anyone else had this?
Know of a pill that is good with this?
My doctor is not helpful with this at all. I can't ask her anything about pills and moods, she says its just a phase and will pass. But I've been on the pills long term and I am just moody all time, mildly depressed all the time - and not my self.
Thanks for reading this.

It could be that your body just is not happy with hormones. I've decided to face facts as well: the pill was making me anxious, depressed, moody, with zero sex drive and destroying my marriage. It is possible there may be 1 pill out there you'll react differently to, but you have to ask yourself is it worth it wasting time searching for something that might not even exist? I stopped the pill after 7 years, and I'm much happier now. It was such a relief to have a 360 turn as far as my attitude and mood, that I will never go back on hormonal birth control again. The way I was acting, I thought I must have a serious mental illness, and it all turned out to be the stupid hormones!

Thanks for reading this. Birth control pills in general deplete B vitamins, which is why so many women feel depressed on the pill. I found this out through doing extensive research and also from my own personal experience. The last pill I was on, Brevicon, made me depressed. Then, I started taking a B complex vitamin along with it and I felt alot better. However, I, like cln1812, have decided to stay off hormonal birth control. I'm just too sensitive to the side effects and it's not worth it for me.

I get depressed when i come off the pill, probably due to a drop in estrogen. I feel alot happier when i'm on the pill.

Depression is a very common occurrance among BC pill users. As has already been posted, it's because the pill depletes a lot of your major nutrient levels, including vitamin B and also magnesium. Your levels of those 2 nutrients become very, very low while you're on the pill, which is what causes most women to become depressed.
The problem is that women don't often connect their depression problem to their birth control pill, so they start taking anti-depressants which only exacerbate their already extremely common side effect of lack of libido. So most women screw themselves up totally by being on so many drugs that are actually harming them more than helping.
The only solution I have found is to quit the pill all together. I can't even explain how much better I feel overall after quitting. My entire outlook on life, which used to be really bleak, has done a complete 180. I'm actually happy again and I actually want to have sex with my boyfriend, which is a first for me since I quit the pill.
I think it's really important to realize that majority of women on birth control experience some kind of depression or mood-issue while on the pill. It's rare to find a woman on BC who does not eventually suffer this side effect. For women who have only been on a very short time, they don't notice it right away, but the problem is that it will creep up on you so gradually that you won't even think to correlate it to being on the pill. But the fact remains that nine times out of ten, the depression is caused by being on the pill.
So in answer to your question, no I personally don't believe there is a pill in existance today that will help you not be depressed. If you don't want to be depressed, then you should not be on the pill. That is my personal opinion which I have derived from extensive research on the subject.
