What is the best BCP for lowering testosterone/dhea?
I have high dhea/testosterone and just started Ortho-TriCyclen 3 months ago. Is this the best one to take for lowering these? I have had hairloss, and that's what led me to have bloodwork done.

I wish I could answer but I can't. I think Yasmin is supposed to help but Yasmin contributed to my hair loss. Every pill takes several months to work so maybe you should have your levels retested soon. May I ask how bad your hair loss was? I am struggling everyday with mine.

Oh, it's pretty bad...maybe 1/3 of the volume it was a few years ago. I actually have had loss for 6+years (and I'm 32, soon to be 33), but none of the docs thought to test my hormones until recently. When the tests came back indicating that I had high DHEA/high testosterone, a lightbulb went off for me-----I have had hairloss for 6+years and I've been off BCPs for 6 years! When we had our 4th child, my DH got a vasectomy and it wasn't necassary for me to take the pill any longer. I thought natural would be better! WRONG!
So I immediately went on the pill (OrthoTriCyclen) but it seems to not be helping at ALL, but it's only been 3 months. Should I give it more time? I have NO other options.

I am curious about this as well. I have been off bcp's for 2 yrs and have been experiencing LOTS of hair loss for exactly the same time. Going to try Yasmin and pray it works! I used to have extremely thick hair, and now have thin. It's making me very upset and I need something to help me SOON!

I feel for both of you. Have you had your ferritin tested? Mine is 32 - in the normal range but there is evidence out there that shows it really needs to 70 to "regrow" hair, 40 or so to "keep" your hair. I feel Yasmin caused my TE but possibly the low ferritin is preventing me from getting better. I am seeing a new doctor on Monday - I'll post if I have anything worthy to.
