yasmin, seasonale, and bleeding.
(sorry for the double post, this was originally posted in the wrong forum. :/)
Hi all,
i was on seasonale for one cycle, with excessive spotting. Then, at the beginning of my second cycle, the spotting turned into excessive bleeding for 1-3 hours every few days. My gyno and Primary Care both told me to switch back to the yasmin (which i was on for 6 months with no complications). So, i switched back to the yasmin, and the bleeding every few days is getting worse. Last night, i soaked two pads in an hour and a half. I understand it could be worse, but this is also no bed of roses. The bleeding comes out of nowhere, and if I dont realize it withing 30 seconds to a minute of it starting, i am up the creek without a paddle. I saw my primary care dr. this morning and he set up a pelvic ultrasound for me tomorrow afternoon, and he just said to wait it out as far as the bleeding is concerned. I feel severely restricted wearing a pad all day, every day, waiting for my bleeding to crop back up. I have no idea what to do! Any advice, or opinions on the two kinds of birth control?
thanks, kay.

Seasonale is very well known to cause excessive breakthrough bleeding. I think what is happening is that your body was completely thrown out of whack because you switched pills. The Seasonale caused the breakthrough bleeding and even though you switched back to Yasmin, your body is still trying to work out the Seasonale. That's the problem with switching sometimes, it causes more problems than necessary.
I don't think there is anything really seriously wrong, I think it's just a case of your body being freaked out by the Seasonale. It's not a good option for many women, because so many women report excessive breakthrough bleeding that lasts for a long time. When I was on it, I did not have that problem, however I did experience extreme mood swings and I started experiencing suicidal thoughts. I'd never had that before Seasonale, so after 6 months on it, I went back to my microgestin generic. But then I got sick of the fact that my sex drive was completely dead so I quit BC all together. Now all of those problems I had have cleared up, thankfully!
Anyway, I think you just need to give your body time to readjust back to the Yasmin. Of course I'm not a doctor and I don't know your medical history so I'm just guessing here, but I really don't think it's anything serious. Your body just can't handle the type of hormones in Seasonale, that's all. I mean, that's my guess.

I experienced what you are about 3 1/2 weeks after giving birth to my second son. At that point I was about done with my post partum bleed.
Then whoosh it was like someone turned on a faucet (sorry for TMI)
It would start out of nowhere and last a few hours. I went to see my doc during one of those episodes and he removed some very large clots. He then put me on bc and I was fine.
Next time it happens try to get into the dr. (gross I know) but maybe you might have some clots- although it might just be the switching of the bc pills. Good luck- I remember that paranoid feeling!

I have been told that if you only want a few periods a year, the doc will just prescribe for you to take three consecutive cards of BCp like OTC and skip the sugar pill. We were planning on doing that, but then my whole ovulation got messed up before we could try, and now, whats the point? I am trying to get prego. I have also heard a lot of icky things about seasonale, and that insurance won't cover it. CAn't you take a regular BCP and just skip the sugar pill for three go rounds to get the same effects as Seasonale?
