Do They Have To...

look at you 'down there' when you first get birth control pills? I'm 17 and I want to be put on the pill and I already have the okay from my mom but I don't want someone to have to look at me there. I'm still a virgin.
Answers:

My Dr. said they don't HAVE to, but he wouldn't perscribe them to me with out doing it, he said that way i got used to come back once a year, but for that and my perscription.
It wasn't THAT bad... You just need a Dr. you can trust, and you can have your mom (or sister, or whatever) come in with you to make you feel better. They explain it all to you, at least once (i got it about 5 times because i was freaking out so much) and they have to tell you what they're doing as they do it, and theres always a nurse present.
I was a virgin when i got my first pap. It was scary, but it took like, 3 minutes. Relatively painless, excpt for when they feel for your ovaries to make sure they dont feel anything wierd, but that only took a minute, literally.
It's not scary, and if you have a trusting Dr/patient relationship, then i'd say you're fine.
But, it depends on if your Dr. will require it or not. All of them are different.

Yes....

I know it sounds bad and probably embarrassing - but it's something that needs to be done to make sure everything is OK. This is something you'll have to get done once a year. It's called a PAP Smear or PAP exam.
Believe me....doctors won't renew your birth control prescription each year unless you have a yearly PAP exam.

It's for the good of your health - so don't avoid it. There are multiple amounts of health issues that can develope and its far better to find these issues early.
Answers:

Don't worry about the exam. I had my first when I was 16. I was nervous like you but after I had it I realized that I was nervous for no good reason because it doesn't hurt. I'm 17 now and have had multiple exams. It shouldn’t hurt. You may feel some light pressure but that’s all. The best thing you can do is stay calm during the exam because the more relaxed your muscles are, the less pain you will feel when you are having the exam. It only takes a couple of minutes and it goes by really quick. It's no big deal.
Good luck!

I'm 28 yrs old and I had to do my first pelvic exam while I was out at college all by myself. Yes, it was something I was uncomfortable with but I know it is necessary. Get a woman DR if you have serious butterflies. They aren't as scary because they have the same parts and they know the female body better than any man could. I personally have a man as my OBGYN but he was with me through both deliveries of my kids and I still am uncomfortable with the exam part but I it helps me knowing my DR so well. You may never get over the fear, so people can. I still fear it but just do it! I think you will realize it isn't that awful and you can forget about it. Good luck to you!
