Yasmin...not Yaz!

I am sometimes very unattentive and didn't notice when the pharmacy gave me yasmin when the doctors note said "Yaz" until I opened the bag when I needed to start taking them, and by that time I was just like "well, whats a month?"

Let me tell you, I have not been on birth control for 6 months (before that I took yaz) and in the last week, I've been experiencing a lot of problems.

Every day, I have nausea...that doesn't end. Headaches and mood swings. Not to mention my lovely yeast infection! Yeah...

So what I'm asking...does anyone have any good advice on how to combat yeast infections?
Answers:

I had a lot of trouble with yeast infections when on the pill and when first going off the pill.

First, for quicker relief, get yourself an OTC yeast infection treatment like Monistat. However, stay away from the new Monistat day or night treatment, it is a substandard product and does not work well. I have always had success with either the Monistat 1 night or 3 night treatments. Some people only have better luck with the longer 7 day treatments. If this is your first time using an OTC yeast treatment, I'd go with the 3 night or 7 night treatment.

In the drugstore, near the Monistat, they sell a product called AZO yeast pills (usually I only find these in the drugstore, not at the grocery store or Target, sometimes Wal-mart has them). These contain friendly bacteria for your vagina. You can take 3 pills daily while you have a yeast infection or feel one coming on and after that drop down to 1 pill daily to help prevent yeast infections. I love this product. I went 5 months between yeast infections after I started using it--a record for me since I was getting them every 3 weeks or so. Now, it's been another 2 months and still no new infections.

If you can't find AZO yeast pills, you can also find acidophilus capsules. These are also friendly bacteria for your vagina (similar to AZO yeast pills). Best are the bottles suggesting refrigeration after opening and containing something as a food source to allow the bacteria nutrition while transitioning in your body--such as lactose, glucose, saccharides (sugars, basically is what the bacteria need). You can take acidophilus daily just like the AZO yeast pills.

Also, you can eat yogurt with live active cultures to combat the infection. Yogurt will also prevent yeast infections, but I found for this to work, I had to eat it every day; skipping 2-3 days was like begging the yeast infection to come back.
