Yet another warning about Yasmin

Hey there all! I have been reading the posts on here and it seems that there is alot of people having a lot of problems with Yasmin. Let me tell you my story. I have only been on Yasmin since November 2006 (4 months), only 23 years old, weight 50kgs, not a smoker and quite healthy. Last week I noticed my arm turning a very red colour and quite bad pain in that arm. Went to the doctor who sent me for a scan and it showed a 30cm blood clot going from my elbow vein right up to my subclavian vein (not far from the heart!) I was sent straight to hospital, had to have blood thinning injections and I am now on warfarin for probably 6 months! Then the docs thought I had a pulmonary embolism, so they had to do scan to rule that out (which thank goodness they did). But I am very shocked as are the doctors because they said it usually happens in women over 30, who are overweight and have been on the pill for a prolonged period of time. I now am on 2 weeks sick leave off work. Just a warning to all the girls out there, be careful with this medication. I don't want anyone else to go through such a scary time as what I did.

Oh my God. Glad you are ok now.....thanks for the warning. These rotten drug companies could care less--they just want to make a buck off all of us.

OMG, that is so scary. I'm glad you were diligent and went to the doctor. I hope everything will be OK with you. That just sounds terrifying.

I'm very glad I quit the pill when I did, especially since it seems a lot of people are experiencing blood clots on the newer pills. I have gone to using fertility awareness method (FAM) with condoms during my fertile days, and I would never go back on the pill.

Thanks for sharing your story. I hope you feel better soon.

Nataylia - You might have read my post about my blood clot experience on Yasmin as well. Though unfortunately I am one of the ones who was overweight on Yasmin, I am only 26 and not a smoker. I can't believe you were only on the pill for such a short time and you had such an awful experience. I can completely relate to you, and wish that this dibilitating injury wouldn't effect another woman. I am still fighting with this clot of mine, and it was discovered Dec. 23rd. I've been through the blood thinning injections (10 days of the Lovenox shots), am on warfarin indefinitely, and am unable to seek work at the moment and my doctors don't know when I will be able to.

I wish that this pill would be pulled from the market, but I know it will not be. I was never told of the effects of Yasmin, other than a possibility of increased potassium. I realize that there is an incresed risk of having a blood clot on any birth control pill, but it just seems that this one is causing more harm than help.

Best of luck to you hun, and if you ever need to vent, I'm here to listen, as well as others who obviously are moved by your story.

This is really frightening. You are like the 4th or 5th person to post here to say that you had a blood clot on the pill! Man, I am SO GLAD I quit when I did!!

I will never, ever, EVER go back on the pill again, even if someone offered to pay me for it! Screw the pill!
