My son is 5 is this normal

Hi there,
Question.....my son is 5 and very aware of penis. He is constantly playing with himself and I do not let him I know I am aware because he doesn't do it in public. I don't want to make an issue of it because I don't want him to feel unconfortable or "dirty" for doing so. But yesterday he told me to put my hands down his pants. I said "that isn't appropriate, only you can touch yourself." He said nothing else and went about his regual routine. I told his father and asked if he ever said it to him and he said "no, but I see him touch himself and I will keep my eyes and ears open it anything else happens," and I asked my mom and she said this complately normal. Is it? Does anyone else feel weird about this?

I think that is normal behavior, my duaghter is six and is very aware of her body also, and if she is not asking me questions about herself she is looking at it in amazement. I think thats a part of the body that is not normally seen, plus it looks differrent so of course they are going to be curious. I don't think you have anything to worry about

I think you have the right idea...teaching him boundaries without overeacting. And it's a good sign that he knows not to do it in public....just an idea, you may want to tell him, next time you see him touching himself, that he should only do that in his bedroom or the bathroom.
