Mother, Daughter and Father

Here is a father with a question. My wife and our 12 year old daughter get in arguments quite often. They push each other's buttons. Oftentimes, this is when I am not around. However, I am often asked by my wife to intercede on the argument and she believes I should always side with her as she believes our daughter manipulates the situation.

Well this puts me in a bad spot as I am forced to always believe my wife and respect her opinion, and if I do not, then we get in a fight.

What I am struggling with is how to handle situations like this when I am brought in and it is a she siad-she said situation and honestly I do not know who is at fault.

Thanks for any advice you have!

I don't know how constructive it is but my father just shout in that kind of cituation: "You shut up and you shut up and all of you shut up". It seemed help.

Parents have to show a united front but you could talk to your daughter any other time and ask her what is going on with her and what she thinks and feels. I think that your wife needs to be the parent and not argue with her daughter. My children are younger than 12 but I refuse to get pulled into an argument with them. I will listen to their opinions, but after I make a decision I am not going to argue about it. I think that it really erodes the parent's authority when they allow themselves to get pulled into an argument with their child.
